Huckabee "misspoke"? Yeah, right!!

This sentence was interesting:

“Speaking to anti-gay, anti-bear activist Fischer, Huckabee was emphatic that he’s never said Obama was born ‘anywhere other than Hawaii where he claims to have been born.’”

Really? “Where he claims to have been born?” Is he still pandering to the birthers? I thought we were past that by now.

What’s an anti-bear activist?

ETA: Yeah I just read it. What a dumbass.

First, any red blooded American male of a certain age knows precisely who the MauMaus are. They are the last string on any college football team, the refuge of the non-scholarship walk-ons, the poor slobs who run next week’s opponent’s plays so the varsity guys can beat up on them in practice.

Second, I don’t thing for an instant that former Governor Huckabee either “misspoke” or was misinformed. It was a lie and a deliberate lie calculated to gratify a particular portion of the Republican base. If by some incredible chance it was not a lie, if it was some sort of slip of the tongue or the product of misinformation, it is persuasive evidence that the man does not have the intelligence or wit or basic honesty to hold any office of trust or profit, even in Arkansas or on Fox News.

I say it was a lie, a stupid, self-serving and too easily detected lie, which also disqualifies him for any high office.

Bricker seems overdue with his analysis of why Huckabee might have meant something else, but no, there’s no excuse for it, but the rest of you are still wrong for attacking him.

You really think Huckabee believes this nonsense? He’s pandering to the people who can get him the nomination (and it says a lot about the GOP than you need these people to get elected). Shoot, I’d have a hard time believing someone like Palin actually believes this crap. Huckabee’s a thousand times smarter.

Really? 'm not doubting you. In fact, it explains why someone like Huckabee would say something so obscure, and yet so blatantly stupid.

Not all conservatives are stupid, but, my god, look what you have to do to get their votes.

“he refers to Grizzly Bears as a “curse” and says that “it’s time” for the grizzlies to go.”

Does Sarah Palin know about this schmuck?

Nope, he is evil.
He vetoed a bill that would have protected people against insurance companies because it contained the phrase, “Acts of God”.

…and then berates the “usual suspects” for attacking poor Huckabee, and finally trots out an example of a Democrat politician doing something bad.

Bonus points if the example is prior to the '70s, or involves a Kennedy.

And here I was thinking that the absence of right wing people in this thread defending Huckabee might mean that the right wing members here didn’t view what Huckabee did as defendable, and so had chosen not to defend him.

Good of you to fill in what you know Bricker must want to post, even though he hasn’t done it. It’s much easier to oppose people on that basis.

Well, it does save time.

Avoiding integrity and intelligence usually does, in the short run at least.

Great. In future, we’ll stereotype you as “humorless old fart” then.

I guess we have different definitions of humor.

Then why don’t y’all just STFU about the 10 commandments then?

He’s either fulfilling his FOX News obligations, as Wheelz said in post #4, or dog-whistling to the base for his presidential run. I’m doubtful Huckabee is as stupid and ill-informed as his statement was. I predict we’ll hear a lot more of this type of rhetoric from other potential Republican candidates over the next 12 months.

And the bits of Leviticus you seem to cling onto.

Me? What the fuck are you talking about? For Christians, the Big Ten still do apply. I’m not a Christian though and even if I was I don’t have to STFU about anything, Junior.

I meant to mention that my knowledge of the Mau Mau comes from…

… Magnum, PI.

See, Higgins was in Africa in the 50s and… I should probably just shut up now.

I appreciate the efforts of those seeking to shoulder my burden of correcting error here, but this is why I hire my own speechwriters.

Anything is possible, but I don’t see much likelihood of him “misspeaking.” An off-the cuff reference to Obama growing up in Kenya, perhaps, could be inattention or misremembering, but the specific reference to the Mau Mau Rebellion removes this from any “off the cuff” range and turns it into an analysis where the central point is Obama’s presence in Kenya while he’s growing up.

Perhaps he believed that Obama was born in Hawaii and then moved to Kenya at a young age, or perhaps he believes that Obama was born in Kenya but doesn’t wish to be known as a birther. Either way, this was, at the most generous interpretation, a significant error, not a “misspeak.”

Now it all makes sense. It was HIggins who faked the Hawaiian birth certificate. Dots connected!!
