I usually don’t talk much about my personal stuff here, but I feel it’s time to come clean on a few things. Here’s the nasty background.
About three years ago I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. That’s a form of cancer for those of you who don’t know. What followed was a year of tests, chemo and radiation. After this I got the all clear and was scheduled for regular check-ups.
Last week my oncologist decided it was time for a routine follow-up CAT scan and chest X-rays. I had those done on Monday. Needless to say, I’ve been a nervous wreck ever since.
I just got the results and everythings looking good! I haven’t hit the five year mark, but now I don’t have a check up scheduled for another 6 months.
Congratulations! One of my friends had Hodgkins ten years ago and is fine. My brother had Hodgkins just about five years ago and is doing well also. He had to have radiation and chemo after a referral snafu precluded the radiation-only route. I think his only worry is getting those location tattoos removed.
That is just awesome, Trion! Having had a mother who died of breast cancer, I know the agony you went through waiting for those test results. I pray every test from now on is all clear and negative for you. Congrats!
Guess I have a one track mind. Good luck bro, my Aunt died due to complications during chemo treatment for Lymphoma (not sure which variety). She’d beaten the cancer but had a blood clot migrate to her heart in the last week of chemo. Sounds like you beat that part so best of luck.
I lost my mom and my brother one year apart to pancreatic cancer two years ago, and I am so happy that you are here to receive a clean bill of health! I count every survivor a victory against the enemy.
What I find so amazing is that you never mentioned any of this before. We could have at least comiserated with you all this time. Some of us are nice, ok, well, a few of us, ok, one or two of us wouldn’t have ignored you. Good luck and continued health!!
dragonlady - I actually know that everyone here is nice and supportive. I chose not to speak of this before for a couple of reasons. For one, I didn’t want my cancer to be the first impression people got of me. I’m also not the kind of person who can talk about this stuff right from the start. Besides, I didn’t want to distract from the brilliance of my other posts.
sqweels - No, you’re thinking of Michael J. Fox. I don’t know how you can mix us up. I’m the one wearing the green tie.
