Hugh Laurie: Let Them Talk

I just watched this on PBS’ website. It is highly entertaining. I figure that it’s my duty to point it out, in case any of you are fans of Hugh Laurie, the Blues, or hats.

From the site:

Wow, he’s really good!

He was always good but I think he’s gotten even better.

He’s…REALLY good!

I’m not even into that type of music yet I thoroughly enjoyed that!

There is also an album available of the same name. Listening to the previews at the Amazon mp3 store, it sounds really good. And if Hugh’s piano playing on “House” is any indicator, it is probably even better still. I’ll never forget watching him sit down at a piano and dashing off the amazing intro to “I Don’t Like Mondays” in one episode.

Wow! That was excellent. Thank you BlackKnight for posting that link. I don’t watch House so I never would have clicked if you didn’t mention The Blues.

Generally speaking, I’m not a fan of the blues. Specifically speaking, I’m even less of a fan of SDMB posts that serve only to extoll the virtues of a link that someone else has posted, especially when said link involves board-favored famous people indulging in their lesser-known (but still in and of themselves popular) hobbies.

That said, I can’t deny that I just stayed up more than an hour later than I intended watching that entire thing, and it was pretty damned awesome. If I ever have the pleasure of meeting Hugh Laurie, this’ll be the first thing I ask to shake his hand for. Many thanks to BlackKnight for sharing, and I’ll consider this a solid blow against my hardened cultural cynicism.

Not counting the music and Laurie’s incredible admiration for it:

The best thing–Seeing Hugh without his toupee. Way to go!

The worst thing, and it’s a nitpick: At the end, when House claims New Orleans music travelled up the Mississippi and became soul, gospel, rock and roll, and rock. C’mon Hugh! Anyone who knows anything about music styles and history knows it’s a lot more complicated than that! You could have given credit to the country & western side of it.

But between his acting, writing and musical abilities, I think Hugh Laurie has more talent than should be allowed by law (not to mention those eyes!)
