Really MPSIMS
My mom grew up on a farm and ranch. She is an expert gardener, and can make anything grow. And is one of those people who can produce about a metric ton of cucumber plant, and her pea vines grow to the heavens.
I grew up on the edge of the city, and my mom always had mounds of fresh grown vegetables every summer. There was only one problem. the rest of my family hated vegetables. Now a nice juicy tomato is a piece of heaven, and the strawberries never lasted long, but the squash and beans and leafy and sprouty crap, we all loathed. So there was a huge excess of supply, and nearly no demand. And you couldn’t give it away to the neighbors cause they all had an overflowing stockpile as well. Eventually most of it got tilled back into the ground by me to give nutrients back rather than waste them. After us kids all moved out of the house it got worse, as my mom had more time to enjoy in her garden, and fewer consumers. But my mom loved doing it, and kept doing it.
About 5 years ago my parents moved to California. My mom staked out a section of the backyard for her garden, and started growing stuff. Then an amazing thing happened, people living in her neighborhood actually wanted the crap. All those California organic vegetarian types who are under the strange impression that not only are cucumbers, spinach and broccoli somehow related to food, there is such a concept of a ‘good’ one. Aparently my mom grows these so called ‘good’ vegetables. And this year, she even ran out! She couldn’t believe it as she told me with fake disappointment.
It’s a great little deal for everybody, since mom gets to nuture her garden for a seemingly real reason, and the neighbors get greens they actually seem to want to eat. Well good for everybody except my dad, who was resigned himself to having more of his perfect lawn being annexed for a bigger garden next year.
