I saw an ad for this, but I didn’t pay attention to when and where because I was busy with a screaming kid. But I thought “hey, that would be cool to see”.
Anyone know what show I’m talking about? I was guessing Discovery channel since it looked computer generated ala their dinosaur shows, but I can’t find anything on their site.
When I read the title, I parsed it as “What happens to earth TV shows after Humans go Extinct?”
My guess is that they get cancelled, unless the added cockroach viewers keep the Nielsen ratings up.
Life After People, on The History Channel.I wish I could watch it. I saw an ad for it at the movie theater last night, in one of those First Look segments. It looks great!
You’re welcome! Let me know how it is. Normally when I sit there waiting for the previews to start I listen to my iPod and read something, but they have these First Look segments that go behind the scenes of movies and, every now and then, TV shows. I looked up and saw these amazing visuals of a city that had been empty for years, kinda like I Am Legend. I took off my headphones and paid attention. They were talking about Chernobyl as a prelude to talking about Life After People. It was fascinating. I turned our Tivo and DirecTV off so I’ll have to wait for the DVD.
Why can’t you watch it? Scientific American published this article last summer, if you’re interested in reading something about the subject. I suspect THC got the idea from the guys who wrote it, if they’re not actually involved in the project.
Oooh, I can’t wait to see this. I, too, saw the preview in the theater, and am such a big Chernobyl nerd I nearly jumped out of my seat shouting “It’s Prypiat!” when I recognized it from the pictures, getting lots of weird looks from those seated around me.
I was posting when you were posting so you probably missed it, but I turned our Tivos and DirecTV off a while back. We were paying $65+ a month for them, and yet weren’t watching anything. Literally, I haven’t turned on the TV myself since last year’s Academy Awards. It was a waste of money. I have nothing against TV, I’m not a snoot about it, and I’ve gone through many times where I’m obsessed (we have 2 Tivos, and hundreds of videotapes of things taped off TV in the past 25 years), but then I go through extended periods where I just don’t want it on and would rather listen to music. On the other hand, we do watch DVDs, but not on our TV, so it’s not like we’re totally unplugged. I’ll buy the DVD of this when it comes out.
NailBunny, what’s Prypiat and which part of the preview is it in? I’ve seen this thing about 5 times now and I’m sure I’ll see it again. Tell me about what’s shown so I can watch with some knowledge next time. Thanks!
Ah, saw that link after I posted. Thanks for it! Do tell what I’m seeing there if you want to. Maybe it should go in another thread, I don’t know.
WAIT, never mind! I see that he said Prypiat, that that’s the name of that town. I get it now!
Yes - Prypiat was a pretty large city near the reactor where the Chernobyl workers lived, now totally abandoned. One of the largest “ghost cities” on the planet, I believe. More or less untouched, except for some looters and graffitti and such. Creepy and fascinating.
I hope THC (hah!) doesn’t screw this up. They have a pretty spotty record-- some things they do well, and some things they don’t. And I’m pissed I won’t be getting this in HiDef. Do they even broadcast in HD, or is just that comcast (at least in my area) doesn’t carry the HD channel.
