Humm - so my clothing won't actually FIT in my closet...

Oh, and as an FYI - I have 34 pairs of black shoes (yes, really), as well as 7 pairs of black boots. I’ve got a thing…

A few years ago I helped my aunt move from her condo in town to her country house. I opened the door to the “spare bedroom,” and she’d converted it into a closet. Double rows of closet-organizer racks along all four walls, plus free-standing racks in the middle of the room. It looked just like Loehmann’s.

And now that I recall, only a third of the stuff was going to the country house; some was going to a new (smaller) condo across town (one bedroom was wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling in wardrobe boxes when I left), and the rest into the barn at her bed-&-breakfast. She’d hired a couple of guys from the local shelter to help her move (hard-working men who’d had some bad luck and were homeless), and they just kept shaking their heads.

buy an armoire.

Humm - an armoire. I don’t actually know where I would put it.

I managed, with much stuffing, to get the last pile in. However, I also did all my laundry yesterday, and the stuff that hang drys still has to be fit in there. I’m a tad scared at the prospect.

If you read a story tomorow about a Canadian woman crushed by an exploding closet, you’ll know who it was…

I don’t get you. You came into my thread where I was trying to give away clothes for crafts, and sneered all over the place, now you’re sneering at people who have more clothes than YOU think they need.

What do you care how many clothes people have and what they do with them??

Eq

Arrrrr, I blame you alice!. Today I got thinking about how my clothes collection really is quite tiny and modest compared to yours, and how I didn’t actually have a clothing problem. Of course then I started browsing eBay and now I’m desperate for these pants.

I hope you and my credit card are happy!

Email me, please. I don’t choose to get in a shouting match over a private matter in public. Thank you!

You’re the one that made your disapproval of me and these posters public. I don’t want to shout, I just want to know why it bothers you. You ignored my answer in my thread.

For the record the “For Men” list was actually a complete list of all the clothing i own.

To be honest i’ve never had a problem with women collecting and hording clothing. I’ve always been of the opinion that since i can’t walk past a geek shop without buying some kind of pointless computer peripheral, it would be a wee bit hypocrytical of me to criticise.

I’ve never understood the shoe thing though - GariGirlfriend has well over 50 pairs, including a fair few that (to me) look almost exactly the same but have slightly different straps etc.

So since this thread seems to contain a rather high concentration of the smart, beautiful and witty female dopers* whose posts i enjoy so much, i was wondering whether one or two of you wouldn’t mind expanding on what Wintermute said and explaining “the shoe thing” to me.

cheers,

Garius

[sub]*What is the correct collective noun for a bunch of female dopers? Dopesses? Doperettes? Doperinas? Goddesses?[/sub]

Ooooo - very nice! I AM happy. :):D:)D

I’m kind of a pusher…

I don’t have a shoe fixation, but I think we need a larger apartment to house my gradually expanding clothes collection. Especially the vintage pieces whic snooty voice require special care and storage.

I think I’m amassing the world’s largest skirt collection.

I’m more of a printed top sort of girl.

I’m sure I have 100 little printed tops.

Two words: Space Bags!

Is that a rude way of saying boobs?

No, she’s referring to these.

No, but that’s the funniest thing I’ve heard in a while! I might have to start referring to them as my Space Bags.

I should have provided the link - thanks Juanita Tech.

Space Bags are great - I’ve been able to store tons of out of season clothes in them. I have a teeny tiny closet in my teeny tiny house, so whatever I’m not wearing at the moment goes in the Space Bags and up into the attic. I store out of season shoes (boots, etc.) in big plastic bins to keep the creepy crawlies out as well.

The big Space Bags are fantastic for storing comforters and blankets too. They are a 21st century plastic miracle.

Humm. They might be good for comforters and blankets and things, but I wouldn’t want to stuff my clothing in there.

They would be all lonely and squished. :frowning: I know - I’m a total freek-show.

On a related note, despite my total lack of space, I actually brought 2 new items home from the store yesterday. I really must be stopped.

In my defense, I am going to be bringing a few items into the store on Saturday so hopefully it will balance out.

Well, except for the 126 item surplus I have…
