Humor-less Movies

Eraserhead

Well, there’s some humor but it’s utterly overwhelmed by everything else.

The Pledge, with Jack Nicholson

The Woodsman, where Kevin Bacon plays a pedophile

Syriana and Hamburger Hill.
It’s very possible that Hamburger Hill had some comedy and I was just too traumatized to notice it (considering I was about 9 when I saw it). I’m not willing to watch it again to find out.

Not if you count Tappy Tibbons.

Which is odd, given that movies about pedophiles are generally very funny :stuck_out_tongue:

Running Scared didn’t seem to have any humorous spots, nor do I remember **The Ring ** having any. The dramas Heaven and They Came Back (Les Revenants) were decidedly humor free.

And I’m puzzled as to why the video store keeps Ghost World in the comedy section (actually, though, I haven’t found any movie Scarlett Johansson was in after she was 12 or so remotely funny).

That depends on your frame of mind. For some reason, I laughed at the scene toward the end when Noah (Naomi Watts’ son) says, “You weren’t supposed to help her.”

Remember the scene at the end where Russian troops execute Ralph Fiennes? That was kind of funny, especially his eye-rolling reaction to their fumbling efforts.

Cameron Diaz was funny as a Bridezilla. Anything that makes marriage to Jeanne Tripplehorne seem like a nightmare is ironically wry on some level.

Sharkbait humor throughout. Remember the girl in the wheelchair giving an inspirational speech against alcohol at the graduation, followed by a drinking binge right after the ceremony? Or Bruce Glover’s character (also in a wheelchair), deliberately provoking the coffee shop employees? Or the white surfer dude singing the blues about picking cotton? Or the weird Kung Fu guy in the convenience store? The bullshit art course taught by the amazing Ileana Douglas?

One of my favorite movies ever!

I don’t recall anything intentionally humorous in The 10 Commandments, Jesus of Nazareth, or …

Passion of the Christ

I’ve heard Angela’s Ashes had no humor in it. (I’ve only read the book.) Which is strange because the book was very funny.

Schindler’s List also had a scene where Schindler is interviewing ladies for the job of secretary. One bangs away expertly at the typewriter. However, she is a rather rugged, manish type and Schindler ignores her. Another is a very attractive girl who can’t type worth a damn, but Schindler pays very close attention to her. Most people I know get at least a chuckle out of that.

The Machinist did have at least one joke in it - “Nah, your sister couldn’t make it.”

“Manos: Hand of Fate” doesn’t have a bit of INTENTIONAL humor. Very funny, though, nonetheless.

Clean, Shaven lacked humor (though my buddy & I got a chuckle out of the number of people walking out of the theater)

Aw, c’mon! There was plenty of humor in this one.

What about when Rabbit’s mom was trying to tell him about her sex life?

Or Rabbit and Mekhi Phifer “rapping” to the tune of “Sweet Home Alabama”–“You live wit’ cho’ momma in a trailer…”

And the people at the plant rapping while they were in the lunch line had some pretty funny lines…

His winning rap at the end was pretty funny…“Yeah, I am white trailer trash, so what cha gonna say now?”

No humor in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
