Does anybody watch “That 70’s Show” on Fox? If so, do you remember the episode where Red takes Eric hunting? Eric starts getting all poetic about how “Magestic the deer was. He’s like Bambi’s dad, he’s the King of the Forest”. THen Red shoots the deer and says “Wrong, I’m the King of the Forest.” Well, that’s how I grew up, and that’s what I still believe.
I remember going hunting with my parents and my grandparents every year. Before we moved to CA we lived in a very rural area of Utah, and the meat provided by the deer was used extensively and greatly appreciated. My family has never been rich, and the extra meat really made a huge difference.
I also remember a year when the anti-hunting people got their way, and hunting was WAY limited for just one year. I have never seen anything so sad in my life. It was a drought year, and that didn’t help. Every day I would see dozens of different dead deer corpses lining the road. It was horrible. I don’t think that’s very humane.
I think the benefits of hunting by far outweight the problems, if there are any.
