Hurricane Sandy: Potential Catastrophic NorEaster Brewing in the Carribean [edited title]

So it’s a secondary derivative.

As expected, so far a little bit of rain and reasonably high (maybe 30 MPH) winds here in the Albany area. I think the only way we’ll lose power is either if something very local goes down or if large parts of the Northeast grid collapse. I was really worried last week when the track looked more like Irene; I’m cautiously optimistic now.

According to the latest forecast, the eye is supposed to pass by about twenty miles north of my house at around 2am tomorrow morning. Our power went out about 9am this morning, but came back around 1pm. Unfortunately, our basement’s flooding, even faster than we can shop vac it up. We’ve got Internet access, but as our living room is downstairs, we can’t watch TV or play on the computers- all we’ve got now is our iPads.

I’d say bring those computers UPstairs asap!!

Nooooo!!!

He could read the phone book and come off as a tremendous asshole.

Yep, they’re already up. I just haven’t reconnected them yet because the power keeps flickering.

I might lose some stuff down in the basement, but nothing which can’t be easily replaced. I just hope our couch isn’t ruined- it’s too big for the two of us to move.

Southern NH here. Wind and rain has really picked up! Lights flickered about half and hour ago, but are so far holding.

Tomorrow morning should be interesting.

Do you have anything you can set the couch up on top of to keep it out of the water?

Wishing you luck. Stay safe.

Shark swimming in the streets of Brigantine, NJ!

My parents lost power near Wilkes-Barre, PA. I’m just thankful the rain isn’t flooding the Susquehanna River this time. They’ve flood evacuated enough times.

The front of a buildingin Manhattan just ripped off… it looks like a doll house. All residents are ok.

I can so see that happening while I’m in the shower soaping up the nether regions.

That is so true.

I am shocked I still have internet access and light. I’m 20 miles outside of NYC in NJ. Cable television is off but I don’t fucking care.

Cue the light flickering. How kind of it to wait until nightfall…

Authorities are seeking Jackie Chan for questioning about the improbably hilarious scene of destruction. Chan is wanted in connection with another facade collapse that occured during a hijinx-and-kung-fu-laden chase through the Bronx.

For realsies: a 3 story tree went down on my parents’ block in Brooklyn; it missed their house though.

The shark in Brigantine is apparently a fake. I’m not posting no more picture links; I can’t tell the fakes from the reals.

First reported death in NYC. A man in Queens was sitting in his house and a tree fell on it. This is scary to me as the winds are buffeting my tiny house and things keep hitting it. I am beginning to freak out my husband. The wind picks up, something smacks my house and I jump out of my seat.

Just starting on Encore, Stephen King’s Storm of the Century.

So Sandy is no longer a hurricane, but will continue to rock you like one.

The storm surge is hitting New York and New Jersey now as high tide approaches. The water has breached the seawall in Battery Park and the subways are now in danger of flooding. You can watch this happening in real time on CNN right now. The water is rising about an inch every minute.
