My 14-month old has just been diagnosed with a hydrocele in his scrotum and will probably have to have surgery in the next couple of weeks. My question to Dopers is: Has anyone been through this recently with a young child? How long did the surgery and recovery take?

Not as a child, but I had one of those about six months ago. The doctor said that it would likely go away on its own, in which case I needn’t worry about it at all. Sure enough, it did go away within a couple of weeks, and there was never any mention of surgery. I don’t know, maybe these are more serious with youngsters.
