Tobacco and alcohol are both legal as well, and I don’t grow or make my own. I guess that’s a thing for some folks, but it’s not one of my passions to grow anything or have a garden or whatever. Seems too much work that I would rather spend doing stuff I enjoy.
Have you tried a dried herb vaporiser ?
I used to smoke, then switched to a PAX 2 about 2 years ago, no more
coughing. Lovely.
I grow my own. Probably not as strong as the pro’ stuff but fine for me, and 10th of the price.
Absolutely true. Just because you can doesn’t mean everyone can. I couldn’t even grow good lettuce or chilies. No way I could grow good cannabis.
At present it would be unlikely I’d grow any. For one thing, it’s not something I indulge in. I might have interest in edibles, but given the very limited room and time I have for agricultural hobbies right now I wouldn’t bother.
Now, if ever I’m again in a living situation allowing for a kitchen garden yes, possibly, along with a variety of other herbs.
I’m with the “I don’t grow my own tomatoes” crowd. Plus, a tomato you can take off the plant and eat without worrying about drying it or otherwise treating it or working for maximum tomato-ness.
Since Illinois legalized it, I haven’t bothered taking any in any form anyway. No moral stance or anything (heaven knows my college days were different), it just ain’t on my radar.
I’m a little surprised to hear about the effort involved since I was led to believe it was fairly easy. Maybe from the stories of people just leaving plants in forests and stuff. I’ve always been on the demand side of the equation so have little working knowledge of the supply side aside from “I know a guy”
Yeah. Beef is legal where I live, but …
I did; I had the same one. I didn’t like it. See, the flavonoids burn off at a much lower temp than the THC, so after the first hit or two, all you’re getting is some THC with a nasty, nasty carbon resin taste to it. With a vape cartridge, the carbon resin is gone. With vape oil, the flavonoids are mostly evenly distributed, so they generally taste good (or at least ‘okay’) until the very last few hits.
Heh. I’ve guided people via text/email. Quality genetics are available. Buy the right seeds from reputable sellers, germinate, vegetate, determine sex and trash the males. Take cuttings (clones) from the best females, root them, vegetate a bit then put into flowering. Fertilize not on a schedule, but by how the plants look. Eventually chop, dry, trim, cure, trim, enjoy.
A few years ago I helped my brother’s neighbor with daily What’sApp chats and he had such a huge harvest that I next walked him through capsule making.
Nope, for the same reason I don’t home brew any more. No need. Back in Olden Tymes, the only way to get decent beer was to brew it yourself. I got very good at it and won bunches of awards. But now, there are 3 excellent breweries within 15 miles of home ( and 2 even closer, but they both suck bantha balls.) I’d rather pay for my beer and not have to do all the work.
Space in my indoor growing setup is already at a premium, what with all the ornamentals, fig cuttings and vegetable seedlings (in season), and outdoor beds will be at capacity before long as well.
So, no room or inclination for dope-growing.
Easy one for me. I have no interest in using marijuana or gardening.
I used to smoke pot when I was much younger, but now I find it has no appeal. So, no, I wouldn’t grow my own.
I have a few friends that grow (and share) and I’ve seen the process. I suppose that I could but I wouldn’t be into it to the point that it would be a chore. For my friends, and I’m sure you as well, it’s a labor of love and you enjoy the process.
One good thing about pot legalization and the grow-your-own movement is that it has benefited gardeners in general.
I doubt we’d have anything approaching the current selection of grow lights*, fertilizers, supplements and inexpensive greenhouses if it wasn’t for the surge in cannabis cultivators.
*in the old days (and maybe still for all I know) you could scoop up bargains at police auctions of lighting fixtures confiscated from dope growers. I was never interested, partly due to that kind of fixture being overkill for my purposes, and also because such purchases were likely to attract unwanted scrutiny from law enforcement agencies - who probably also monitored auction sales of high-powered speedboats seized from drug runners in the Caribbean.
It’s legal here in California and I do grow my own. I grow them in whiskey barrels, just like tomatoes, and I found it just as easy. I grow three plants, and they produce more than we could ever smoke. The THC concentration isn’t quite as high as that which we buy at the dispensary, nor are the buds so dense and cakey. But it’s plenty strong enough to do the job and it cost way, way less than dispensary buds.
I think I have about one pound total in jars at the moment, locked away in a dark place with humidity packs in each jar. I don’t know how we’re ever going to get through it all.
Whether you think you can or you think you can’t … you’re right

One option is to produce capsules.
I’ve used coconut oil which is solid at room temp. and a capsule machine.
In an hour or so you can convert an ounce of sticky green to capsules…
My BIL gives it away. I mean, he keeps enough to keep himself well-supplied. But he’s given away a lot, too. It’s been very well recieved.
Yes, it would be an interesting hobby with which to experiment. The problem is that, while I have an ideal outdoor grow spot sun-wise (no room inside), theft might be a problem. As could my HOA. I’ll have to look into the latter.
Yes, it is legal where I am and I have been growing it right out in the garden. We are allowed 4 plants and that is more than plenty. I can drive around the backroads and see it growing openly in other people’s gardens too. Not hard to grow at all. Good sun, good soil and drainage, a little fertilizer and not too much water. Haven’t paid a dollar for pot for years.
This year’s crop was a landrace strain of Afghani pure Indica. Tasty and calming. The only draw back is that you may decide that 5pm is a perfectly good time to go to bed for the night.
