Pot is a legal drug, opinions

I live in Ca. I don’t think the law has actually taken effect yet but lack of enforcement has basically made it legal. I have retired friends who are putting their finances in serious jeopardy because they are spending $100.00 a week or more on pot.

I maintain a strong opinion that when it comes to pot less is more. $100.00 will last me for over 1 year and I smoke a little everyday.

Here is my theory ( I have tested this numerous times over many decades) If I use it more than once a day the second time is basically wasted and kills any benefits I was getting from the first time I smoked that day. If I smoke a little too much on Monday Tuesday is kind of a waste. I have about a 15 min window to adjust the level I am looking for. If I go past that window and try to boost it a bit I just come down. Chasing the high will give short term boosts that last maybe 30 min. If I stick to my usual small amounts in the morning I can maintain a nice mood for about 8 hours and then I have to wait until the next day to really get the benefits again. The exception is that if I want to enjoy a little extra high in the evening that will be short lived I can smoke a second time about 12 hours after the first time. This will lessen the effect of my usual morning hit so there is a trade off.

In 50 years of practicing this I have not met one person that agrees with this. I also have not met one person that has tried this.

OK, what was that again?

I spend about $50 a week on pot. Less than I spend on food, beer, or gasoline.

I only wake and bake on weekends and holidays. I usually burn around a gram most evenings between say 3 and 6pm. Less is more? No. If I have truly unlimited access (as when I had a garden) I’d also be going through about a half ounce a week making butter to use in cooking.

OK, what was that again?

What is it exactly you’d like opinions on?

If that works for you, congratulations. I’m happy for you.

You are aware that not everyone in the world is you, and things affect different people in strange and unpredictable ways?

I think he’s saying that hesmokes two joints.

This is actually what I am curious about. I have a tendency to doubt I am unique but I guess it is possible. I think it is a good idea for those who are using it to share their experience. It might be of use to others and help lower their costs. I got my medical car 2 1/2 years ago. I went down and bought 1 ounce. I still have about 1/4 of that left and I smoke a little every day. If I am caught off guard and find out I have to go somewhere that requires my full attention I smoke a few more hits and the spacyness goes away. I am actually hoping someone tries this method and reports back with their results.

One medium joint last me well over a week.

If you don’t trust evaluating your own mental state there is another simple test you can do. Look at the size of your pupils and see how long they stay pin point. Just speaking for myself they stay small for a much longer time if I refrain from additional smoking. If I use about 3 times in one day they don’t even retract much.

Smoke moar!!!

I cannot cross my eyes far enough for each eye to see the other pupil.

I’m not sure you understand the effects of marijuana and its relation to pupil dilation correctly.

Secondly, how this would be a valid test to evaluate your own mental state is completely beyond me… and logic.

This is assuming the physical evidence of the effects would correlate with the mental effects. It seems to hold true for me.

I don’t partake, and probably still would not if recreational use were decriminalized in my state. Alcohol is my drug of choice.

However, my Wife does enjoy a good toke every once in a while and I can see her using it instead of a glass of wine most nights.

What was the question?

He thinks she smokes too much and spends too much money on it.

He seems to subscribe to the theory that one can “smoke yourself sober,” a notion that is ridiculous on the face of it. But, he’s high.

Exactly I do subscribe to this theory. Not true for alcohol, not true for pain pills or anything else I can think of. I assume you have never experimented with this theory, it just doesn’t make sense to you. 50 years of experience tells me there is something to it.

Your assumption is incorrect. All of them.

My opinion…? Smoke em if you got em, brother.

And I sorta agree with you; not necessarily from a pot POV, but from a drug POV. Whether it’s alcohol or oxycodone, consumption and metabolism are intertwined with mood and expectations. It’s gonna be a little different for everyone, but there’s nothing wrong with having a strategy.

Dave’s not here.

Smoke your self sober - or smoking more (within reason) doesn’t make you higher?

The second is absolutely plausible/possible/true (at least for some people) and isn’t limited to pot.

I’m not saying for all effects, but I’ve noticed this and for some drugs - such as Ritalin - I’ve confirmed with an expert on ADHD (psychiatrist that specializes in ADHD and doesn’t published research in addition to seeing patients)

I’m pretty sure for opiates this is true. I know people that use Oxycodone recreationally- and I have used it before and the “buzz” you get the first time (say you take it at noon) will kick in about 1pm and last for 3-4 hours. Taking another dose at 2PM - I’d feel nothing pleasurable.

NOTE. I AM NOT SAYING IT DOESNT EFFECT YOU - IM SURE IF YOU TOOK OPIATES EVERY 30 MINUTES - YOU MIGHT NOT GET "HIGHER’, BUT YOUD ALMOST CERTAINLY STOP BREATHING

I react similarly to Oxycodone as with other people, but not with pot.

That being said, there is no way I could use it every day - it simply doesn’t work for me if I take it multiple times a day - or every day. It does something, but it is very much diminished.

I don’t think that is a rare experience.

From talking to the psychiatrist about Ritalin - he was telling me there are different types of tolerance - the one most people think about where you need more and more to get high, but there is also a sort of intra-day type tolerance.

This is one of the reasons that Concerta was invented - it’s time release mechanism is designed to help avoid this infra-day type tolerance.

Note: I’m not sure if “tolerance” is the technical name for the intra-day thing. I believe he used another word, but I can’t remember what it is.

Basicaly just sharing my experience and what works for me and kind of hoping someone else gives it a try and either confirms or denies what I am suggesting. A few weeks ago I had a buddy visiting from out of state, he smokes a lot more than I do. Sitting around talking we tended to pass it back and forth at various times durring the day. I enjoyed very little effect from it and it took a few days for my system to go back to normal after he left. So for me less is more.

Based on what you’ve been saying, and how you’ve been saying it, I suspect you’ve been smoking a WHOLE LOT more than you think.
