Basis: Let’s say a trans-proclivity drug is invented which turns a heterosexual person (M or F) into a homosexual one and vice versa. A pill/day should be taken. The transformation is complete in seven days. After that, if the drug is not taken, the person remains in the new condition indefinitely. Taking the drug for another seven days reverses the condition back.
Question: what would be the proportion of homosexsual population in a month?
Since I asked the question, I will aswer it first: 0% in two weeks, constant.

Basically what you’re saying is that an entire group’s way of life is universally despised by its own members?
This is not a flame how?
Is it so inconceivable to your mind that maybe, just maybe , there are people who actually are happy with their lives?
:: pulling up a comfy chair, getting out the marshmallows, and waiting for the Pit move::
I’ve known gays who said they wished they were straight, but I have known at least as many who were perfectly happy with their life. I guess it all depends on your self-esteem and how supportive your environment is. There was a period of my life where I probably would have been much happier had I been gay.
Here’s another hypothetical question - what if there was a pill you could take that would change your race? I predict a LOT of people would experiment, especially if it was reversible. I remember in high school the few black guys who hung out with my metalhead/stoner crowd were intensely popular because they were different. I wished I was black more than a few times back then…
“…I’ve been to one worlds fair, a picnic, and a rodeo and that’s the stupidest thing I ever heard…”
The whole concept is whack, but if you do have such a pill why would it take seven days to kick in?
I want results now, gawdammit!
Honestly, my answer to your real question: You’d have about 15% of the population experimenting with alternative sexual lifestyles. Pretty much the same ratio as you have now.
Bad, if your question abuot race is phrased like mine, I have no idea, but would think that not many people would do it. I’m OK with mine.
Another question to ponder - your sex.
And what about the age?
But they gotta be separate threads.
So, guys, please, do not answer Bad’s question here, I want to keep this thread by itself.
Incidentally, Bad, I do not want to inflame anyone, I do not ask "are you happy? as a homosexual? as a heterosexual?
The hypothetical pill works both ways.
I’d like to stay who I am, but I do not know if I am “typical”. So, I asked a question. I thought that’s the main purpose of this MB, asking questions.
Neither reading, nor answering is mandatory.
I too was disturbed by this question, but as I thought about it, I began to have some insights that I might no otherwise have had. I’ll go one further than Badtz Maru. My WAG is that within a generation or two, such a pill would have substantially increased the number of practicing homosexuals. Probably the biggest reason that homosexuality is feared is that it is so mysterious and constant. I have the sense that having control over sexual orientation would radically reduce the cultural baggage associated with homosexuality. I can’t fully explain why I think this. Although I fear the direction that this thread might take, I would be interested to hear whether anyone else has this sense.
You’re happy with your sexual choice. How can you not assume that others are as well? The question itself is completely hypothetical and so your answer can be as well. That doesn’t mean it can’t have a basis of logic behind it. For what reason did you pick 0%?
Given this hypothetical, what would stop most people from taking the pill 3 or 4 days only, if they truly wanted to experiment?
Somehow, with this pill, I would envision our society turning into that Dr. Suess book where the creatures have stars on their stomachs.
Let us imagine, for kicks, that life is black and white. Let’s pretend that homosexual and heterosexual are the only two options on the menu. I’m still unsure how this pill would work. It seems to me like a chemical lobotomy. You would give up so much of being a well-rounded person to be straitjacketed into that narrow slot. In addition, no amount of experimental brain chemistry is going to instantaneously alter the social environment. (Anybody remember the 60’s? I thought not.)
What if a heterosexual took the heterosexual pill? Maybe I’m getting way to hung up on the mechanics of this, help appreciated if you can point out my blind spot on this.
So you’re posting this out of ignorance and not to be inflammatory? My guess is that 0% is a little low
I’ll just sit here, too. Toss me some of those marshmallows.

10-25% relatively constant, but higher during a republican administration; when it’s got that “forbidden” thing going for it. Sexuality is just too dåmned much fun to expect everyone to like the same flavor all the time !
