No, I have no evidence he’s even considering it. Only fond hopes.
At this late date, would a change of course to a more populist tack, and a sacrificial goat in getting rid of old Timmy to symbolically signal that, help improve his anemic popularity? We can safely assume that the Rs would take it as another sign of vulnerability, while publicly painting it as a cynical re-election ploy, like his sudden distancing himself from Rev Wright in 2008, or his jobs bill of a couple weeks ago.
In short, turd polish rather than substance seems to be all we’re going to get in 2012 from both parties, anyway. So would it help make O shiny enough to increase his chances of keeping his day job?
There has been talk about Geithner getting dumped from about 6 months after the election. I am amazed he is still around. But now the bankers are hated, and Geithner is seen as a Goldman type banker, so he may be seen as a problem.
I would be for purging all the bankers out of the administration. There are many top flight economists who could do a better and more fair job.
Right now Eric Holder, Steven Chu, Ray LaHood and possibly Janet Napolitano are on my list of predicted cabinet members who will be replaced.
Of course, I would like for all of them to be replaced in a new administration. But apart from that, I think Obama will be wanting to be making some changes soon, and LaHood will probably be moving on anyway for personal reasons.
It would be too little, too late to help Obama much. He really needs a major purge of most or all of his cabinet, but he’d never do that because it would make him look weak(er).
Wrong. Holder is about to prosecute some bankers. That will be huge.
