Brett Easton Ellis was the most appealling author for me, there - and I mostly came away from American Pyscho with the impression that it was the dullest and most pointless thing I’ve forced myself to get through. I mean, it might be compared to Joyce, because it makes use of a barrage of lists and other stream-of-consciousness gimmicks that don’t drive the narrative in any way, but Mr. Ellis didn’t distract us from any of that by confusing it with anything that might be interpreted as clever or interesting.
