My brother will be passing through Portland in a couple of weeks and wants to stop and have lunch with us. Problem: they refuse to leave the proximity of I-5 and will not drive into the city, regardless of how short a distance it is. So that leaves only any eateries that may be on-off friendly from the Interstate. We’re not yet familiar enough with the highway exits here, so need some HELP! They’re not exactly particular about what they eat, so I don’t care what sort of greasy spoon it is.
There’s all sorts of restaurants at and around Bridgeport Village in Tualatin, right off Exit 290. At the other end of town there’s Jantzen Beach, Exit 308, which also has several restaurants.
Yeah, it’s fast food but the Popeye’s off the Rosa Parks Way exit is good. Where else can you get Louisiana fast food in Portland?
Problem with limiting yourself to I5 is that your only options are going to be greasy spoons at best, McDonald’s type at the worst. Are they going north or south? If you want something a little different have them take the 205 loop and then at Exit 3 look for Wankers Corner. Go to the Wanker’s Corner Saloon. It’s a peanut shells on the floor kind of place but when I was there a few years back the food was fairly good.
As GESancMan said the Bridgeport Village will work too if you like that kind of thing.
Your very accommodating. If my sister told me she wasn’t going to leave I5 I would tell her to keep right on driving.
I’m tempted after getting her (SIL) email, which was very abrupt and nearly insulting, but that’s how she comes across IRL also. I could tell she didn’t believe me when I said that there are nearly zero eateries right on I-5.
I’ll check out the suggestions. If they’re not willing to leave the freeway, they’ll have to take whatever is available, or just keep going.
It’s a N-S route straight through Seattle–Salem type thing? On the way in from I-84 there’s always McMennamin’s Edgefield. Or what about Hillsdale? But I always take the brewpub option. “Sorry, bro, I never really loved you.” There’s also that bunch of stuff at Tualatin flats that would be easy to get to.
I’ve suggested the Bridgeport option. I breathlessly await the answer.
