I Am Employed!

(currently on lunch break) Technically, I am in training. I will be working from home doing triage of calls to PA Unemployment. While I deny ever having a job under the table, this one is fully on the books. It is more formal than any job I’ve had before. I will, mostly, be assisting folks get the help they need. So, it feels good. They have already sent a work laptop, a work mouse and a work USB headset. I did some Googling to find out more on the features of the headset. It turns out the thing retails for about $50. I feel entrusted with a great responsibility. I feel blessed to finally be able to say “That meeting could have been an e-mail.”

Congratulations

Congrats. Now go help people.

Congratulations! It’s great you’re going to be able to help people. I get to do that in my line of work and it goes a long way.

Way to go Doc!

Now, whatever you do, do not watch this Bob Newhart video.

I’ve been on disability for years now. This job is a step in transitioning to full time employment. I don’t lose all my benefits. I end up netting a lot more cash. It’s a win win situation.

That’s great! Good for you!

Congratulations!

Great news! Good on you for your persistence. I’m happy for you.

Congratulations! Sounds like life is really looking up for you!

I laughed way too hard at this.

Things I Learned At Work Today

#1 Karen is a language. It is spoken in parts of Myanmar and Thailand.

Umm, that’s it really. Personally, I favor sending all Karens to Myanmar.

Congratulations and good on you for starting to transition!

BUMP

I HATED this job. Every other job I had, I felt I was doing good. With this job, I felt I was aiding and abetting evil. Also, when we first started giving out tickets to callers the response time was under 48 hours. As of last week, the average response time was over two months. But, when all seemed hopeless, an e-mail came.

Having apparently decided that having us answer the calls and give tickets was a terrible system, all of us customer service representatives have been re assigned and the old system put back in place. We are currently receiving new training. We will no longer be dealing with the public. We will instead be assisting the fraud division. I believe this will be a great improvement. Instead of being under orders not to advise callers on what to do and being under orders to lie about the 2 month waiting period, I will help see that scammers are caught and that innocent folks who have just made an error can get their benefits. There is a very remote possibility that this role will suck even more than the last one, but I doubt it will.

Glad to hear your jobs [possibly] improving! Best wishes for the rest of the year.
