You’ve been talking about retiring, haven’t you? Maybe this is the impetus you need. And why can’t you bring your bird with you? It’s not like you’re trying to steal some rare indigeneous species.

Parrots carry Newcastle disease. Transport into the US requires a quarantine. That seems pretty traumatic for the little guy.
I don’t know, maybe you could find out what the conditions for the quarantine are.
I do hope it’s for the best. The unemployment sucks, but I hate being in Limbo even more…
Oh, no! What a pain. Here’s hoping things turn around soon.
<rummages around for coals to Newcastle type joke, but to no avail>
Sorry to hear about your lack of employment. Good luck finding something else. Where in the US would you move?
According to this site the foreign pet to US quarantine for birds is 30 days…
BUT…
… there is a ban on pet birds from a number of countries, including Saudi Arabia. The poor little feller can’t come to the US, period. Sorry.
Same here, and my unemployment runs out in a few months.
Good luck. I’m subscribing to this thread so keep us posted.
Best o’ luck to ye.
Are you getting paid?
I don’t like living in the US. If worse comes to worse, I will abandon all my property here, leaving an apartment full of stuff, and fly to Maryland. I will spend a month or so with Mom and then fly back here in time for the height of summer. Maybe I will do Riyadh this time.
No, I am not being paid.
If you don’t mind me asking, why don’t you like living in the U.S.?
What is it about Saudi Arabia that appeals to you more than living here?
I’m sorry to hear this, Paul. Especially that you’d have to leave Onan behind! Poor little guy…poor big guy for that matter.
Always hate to hear about things like this happening to a fellow expat. Good luck!
That’s good.
Sending you best vibes for getting this worked out to the best case scenario for you.
I am becoming more and more aware (as I get older) that I am hiding or running from something or another. In my case I suspect it is a broken heart. Since most other expats are crazy in one way or another, I suppose it is reasonable to assume I am too. But (as Wally said), “It is one of the happy kinds.”
I like observing a place and not feeling too much a part of it. When something goes wrong here, I am not upset about it. When something happens in the US, I am upset because I expect better. Like I said, I am a little nuts.
I do not overly care for Saudi Arabia. But in my business, this is where the money is. Too many adventures go to China or Thailand to teach for pennies.
Hi Paul,
what do you teach ?? just curious…
English, if I recall correctly.
You are correct that English teachers get paid peanuts in Thailand. But if you’re in the mood for a different kind of heat, not the dry kind, I hear they’re paid pretty well in Vietnam. And I’ve heard good things from Cambodia, which has grown safer over the years.
Paul, you don’t know me from Adam, but I just wanted to take this opportunity to say that I’ve always enjoyed your posts. I hope this works out for you.
Thank you all. Thank you, Priceguy.
Not to worry. I am fine. Just bored. My car ought to be out of the shop this afternoon. Then I can get out of the house and do something.
