So why have I been glued to the Hydroplane races all day today?
I guess it stirs up childhood memories. I remember the princesses of the sport in the 50s, the Slo-mo-shun IV & V
Of course, the Miss Bardahl was the pin-up girl of the 60s.
They still talk about the races I watched as a kid. The champs from the 50s and 60s are legends.
In fact, their spectacular accidents haven’t been topped either. Of course, the boat the burned to the water line today runs a close second. The driver got out ok, but the fire dept dumped a few hundred gallons of foam on the lake. Someone will be paying a huge fine for that, but they got the fire out. It will probably by the boat’s owners.
The Pits are named for Stan Sayres. Bill Muncy’s (grand?) son drove in today’s race. He didn’t win, but he qualified.
Then, there’s the Blue Angels thundering over our house. We did go out to the lake today, but I’ve seen them many times. WOW.
Pat O’Dea, a disc jockey from my childhood, was part of the announce team. He’s got to be 80 years old.
I love Seafair.
