Stuck on hold with Netspend, a credit card company. Yet I don’t mind. The music on hold is something I’ve never heard before. It’s some kind of keyboard-based stuff. The first piece was classic jazz; the second piece doesn’t fit into a pigeonhole but is gorgeous. (I don’t even like jazz but that one was terrific.) The third piece was just getting started when the guy came back on, I was actually a little disappointed.
I’m pretty much just posting this in hopes that the artist somehow sees or hears about the compliment. It is genuinely the best “hold” music I’ve ever heard.
A couple years ago I was on hold for a long while, and really dug the music they played. I asked the guy when he came back on, and he told me his boss also had a recording studio, and these tracks were from there. Great stuff!
Many times on Corporate Hold, I’ve gotten that awful Enya “Sail Away Sail Away” track. GGGGHhhhhhhhkkkkk.
Just today, I’ve heard the hold music from my psychiatrist’s office for the first time and was gladly surprised that it was “The Entertainer” by Scott Joplin. Granted, that’s not very novel, but at least music I can stand for more than two minutes. Brought a smile to my face, and isn’t that the real goal of every good psychiatrist?
I’m sure they will have someone correct that oversight post-haste. Being put on hold is supposed to communicate “hey, fuck you, if you really want to talk to someone here, you are going to have to sit thru 15 minutes of Michael Bolton cover songs. Or hang up. Fuck you.” Making that time one iota more bearable is unacceptable!
I was on hold for a short time with Merrill Lynch this morning, and heard their rousing martial music. This is the Palo Alto branch, I wonder if they all have it.
I got Vivaldi as my hold music once. But I much prefer any music to the “your call is important to us. Please hold until we get around to answering it” message played every five seconds. Especially when it says you can do it on line when I’m calling about how their web site is screwed up.
One of my clients has hold music that is kind of like the Mission Impossible theme- it’s actually a nice pick me up to listen too. It’s not a great client of ours but sometimes I wish I had an excuse to call them more.
a few places I call just has the local top 40 radio station as their hold music
the best music was when time warner and aol together
see aol used to have a radio station set up like pandora but based on what genre of music you liked and it was all of warners back and new catalogue but when put in your screen name the hold music would be your radio channels music (you saved your preferences )
