I’m on the verge of releasing my Mitch McConnell twerking video. It’ll be a bombshell.
Footloose, no doubt. I saw a stage production of it last summer in Seattle. My grandson was the lead, who eventually got the law repealed. Whether there ever was such a town is not known to me, but it seems unlikely.
In the rural town where I grew up, lovemaking while standing was frowned upon - too much like dancing
But how is she at skateboarding? If she can dance and skateboard, she’ll be a force to be reckoned with.
I know. I was just kidding. I suppose it’s no longer the 1980s and we’re well past the time when everyone can instantly identify the main plot point of “Footloose.”
Which is sort of sad to me, for reasons I can’t explain.
I am sure I am not the only one hoping against hope that her response to it would include some variant of “I was young! I needed the money!” Failing that, it would involve Mickey Rooney and putting on a show, down in the old barn.
:sigh:
First it was a professional wrestler who became governor of Minnesota. Then a comedian who became a Senator from the same state. Next a President from The Apprentice. Now it’s a Representative who couldn’t get on Dancing with the Stars.
Regards,
Shodan
Did you notice the length of that video? It’s 4:20! Ah ha! Got her!
He wasn’t twerking; that was just his chin-folds competing for camera time.

Serious question:
Is there any real evidence that there is anyone out there who genuinely thinks this video reflects poorly on Rep. Ocasio-Cortez? I’ve seen a lot of online reaction to the supposed reactions of partisan conservatives to this video, but none of the supposed reactions of those partisan conservatives. Can anyone provide links to actual, genuine criticism of Rep. Ocasio-Cortez over this video?
Does anyone know anything about the posting history of the Twitter account that originated this kerfuffle? Does it have a lengthy history of posting genuine conservative views?
This whole thing just looks like a Poe to me.
If there is actual, non-Poe, non-ironic, genuine criticism of Rep. Ocasio-Cortez based on this video, then…yeah. That would be unbelievably stupid (literally).
Never underestimate the stupidity that is possible in the world. Given this guy’s tweet history, he clearly thinks this is devastating new info.
Wow, that is a truly unique level of stupidity. The comments are great, he takes care to have a lame response to just about every comment. That’s dedication to stupidity.
This far, Ocasio-Cortez has been publically critiqued and rebuked for her fashion choices, her youth and inexperience in government (as if every congressperson before has entered into office with a surfeit of government experience), making a casual error about the separation of government powers (which she immediately corrected, indicating that it was a mistatement rather than a lack of basic knowledge), and her statements about the migrant caravan. Is it really so hard to believe that her critics are stretching for anything to glom onto in order to prove how ‘unfit’ and immature she is to hold office?
These are many of the same people who boostered Sarah Palin despite her very evident ignorance and inedicability about all things regarding governance, economics, history, foreign relations, and basic social graces and English grammar. These are the people who watch Fox News and don’t see it as an intentional parody of actual journalism. These are the people who voted for Donald “Grab them by the pussy” Trump because, “Anyone but Hillary”. I’m sure there will be many genuine criticisms about Ocasio-Cortez as she develops into an experienced representative and pushes her probably unworkable (or at least politically unpalatable) Democratic Socialist agenda, but so far her critics have gone for the most feckless, idiotic criticsms, and bashing her for being an adorable student in a college promotional video fits right along with that line of attack.

Here’s a novel approach to finding a reason this is so scandalous. Evidently, carefree dancing means she was elite, and therefore wasn’t oppressed, and therefore…
Actually, I have no idea what the next step is in this argument. Profit?
Ok, a quick perusal of his recent Tweets does seem to indicate that he is genuine. I’ve never heard of Dan Jordan, before, though. He appears to be Just Some Guy on Twitter. Beyond this one tweet, from this one random Twitter user, is there any actual criticism of Rep. Ocasio-Cortez based on this video? From anyone?
Right, so this fits in with your expectations of how conservative critics of Rep. Ocasio-Cortez would act, but are they actually criticizing based on this video? Again, I simply have not seen any actual examples of it, beyond the initial tweet by Some Random Guy on Twitter.
Well, there was the original tweet, and there are the two I found in 5 minutes of scanning. I’d find more for you, but I have the feeling I know what your response would be.
At least the time I spent looking for idiots on Twitter also uncovered these gems:
Mankind has always had special villains — villains so horrible that mothers speak their names to their children only in whispers. The Serpent in Ancient Eden, Gilgamesh the Defloriator in ancient Uruk, Kronos the Titan who ate his own babies, Judas Iscariot, Baphomet, Erzsebet Bathory the Bloody, Jack the Ripper, and, closer to our own time, Josef Stalin and Woody Guthrie in the 1930’s, Alger Hiss in the 1940’s, Idi Amin in the 1970’s, Saddam Hussein, and now Sandie Ocasio Cortez — the letter counts in her very name, 6-6-6. expose her for the AntiChrist she is.
The Devil’s power to mesmerize is so strong that many Dopers seem unaware of the hideous crimes that will damn AOC to Hell. I hope some of the Board’s Republicans can start a thread to better document her wickedness and sins. I’m trying to make a list; so far I have:
- She went to a public university instead of an Ivy League school.
- She went to an Ivy League school instead of a public university.
- She’s not experienced enough to be President of the United States.
- She danced on a rooftop.
I’m sure this list of transgressions is incomplete. Help? Is she co-proprietor of the child sex ring operating out of the pizza shop?
Well I heard she was actually trafficked goods in that pizza shop sex ring and ultimately escaped without paying back her captor, effectively stealing herself from him. So she’s a thief and a woman of loose morals who ‘somehow’ managed to not beget a baby with her benefactor (yes benefactor–he rescued her from that abominal slave auction, didn’t he?).
Well, now I realize they should have resolved the Bush-Gore election with a dance-off.
Yes, there’s the original tweet from Some Random Guy on Twitter. Which was dumb. I agree it was dumb. Literally everyone seems to agree about that.
Unless I missed something, you haven’t linked to these, much less “found them for” me, so I’m genuinely not sure what I’m supposed to do with this. I’ll take your word for it, though, that at least two other Twitter users also criticized Rep. Ocasio-Cortez for making the video. So, there’s a factual answer to my question: there are are actually some people, beyond the original tweeter, who somehow find the video objectionable. That’s stupid.
OK, I’m just going to lay my cards on the table here.
I consider myself a moderately liberal Democrat. I don’t think much of the policy proposals I have heard her make. But, I also think a lot of the criticism leveled at Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, enumerated by Stranger on a Train, ranges from stupid to loathsome.
I am not trying to somehow argue away the stupidity of finding the video in question objectionable. I simply had not seen any actual statements from anyone who actually found the video objectionable, only statements making fun of unnamed people who supposedly found it objectionable. I was just trying to find out some actual facts about who, if anyone, actually had made those objections.
