The Northern Pikes are coming to my hometown on the 25th. THAT was exciting in and of itself, but see, I work at the paper, and I began to think…
Working at a paper has to have advantages right??
I have been a fan of the Pikes since the thmid 80’s. I saw them in Toronto, opening for Duran Duran and David Bowie in '87.
I have followed their careers ever since I was a teeen. They broke up back about '93, but one went to work at polygram canada (I think) and then another did the score for 'Due South" a popular canadian tv series,.
I have long admired them.
Well, I started harassing everyone at the paper: the advertising manager, the ad rep for the concert, the rep for downtown (the venue for the concert) and best of all, the music reviewer for the paper. He has contacts within different record companies, who send him CD’s & stuff… he sent me this email:
I’ve got the universal rep calling me back about the pikes.
what do you want exactly?
I reply:
**I want to meet them!!
Have their babies…
(maybe you shouldnt mention that part)**
he replied
** eeks.
uh, do you want to get in for free? I can’t guarantee you’ll be able
to schmooze with them, though I can try,**
I replied:
free would be nice of course, but I really just want a chance to say hi to them.
Then I get THIS EMAIL!!!
here’s the scoop - there are gonna be two reps there
one from universal and one from EMI
they guy from universal is kirk xxxx
the guy from EMI is barry xxxx
your name is on the guest list and when you go in ask
to see barry xxxx, he’ll slide you backstage. how’s that?
I almost wet my pants!!
** I AM GONNA MEET THE PIKES!!!**
