Yyyyeah. Tell you what, Lib, next time you’re near Earth, why don’t you stop in and say hi? We’d all love to hear from you.
Yep, pretty standard. Did you just jump straight from preschool to high school?
And if you’re a big enough moron to think that these guys are serious enough and have the power to institute gladitorial games and such between gay people then I take back everything I’ve said, and I’ll leave you to wallow in your own stupidity.
Isn’t that a contradictory statement? That’s like saying “I really really hate McDonald’s, which is why I eat there every day.”
kung fu lola:
I’m begging you people to tell me where you went to school, because I want to send my kids there. No school I went to ever even pretended that they were required to do this.
Lib, that’s got to be one of the most interesting posts I’ve ever seen you make. Notwithstanding the fact that the OP is my brother, you’ve an interesting grasp on the facts involved and an even more interesting way of representing them. Your crisp accusation against jarbaby of writing a “cheapshot [post] whose irrelevance is exceeded only by its hubris” is heartily amusing to say nothing of, again, interesting.
Remember all those people you used to listen to, and they listened to you back? I might think to myself “Why are they acting like I’m posting crazy stuff?” and wonder if there wasn’t some truth to it.
And if I were they, we might think to ourselves, ‘maybe he has’.
Lib, you are out of your freakin’ mind. Moreover, your Humpty Dumpty penchant for making words mean what you want them to mean has finally rendered your posts so incomprehensible they make Finnegan’s Wake’s prose look like Readers Digest.
Dwalin is not a bigot for being offended at the suggestion that gay people deserve to be murdered becaue of who they are. In no way did he attack people for believing in hetero marriage–he only objects to hate against gay people.
How the bleeding fuck is that in any way bigotry? You and Jodi must share the same dictionary because you both have the same twisted definition of bigotry to mean “anyone who objects when my affinity group attacks them first.”
That is ‘pretty standard’? Either you have ridiculous standards, or you go through this same shit more often than I can imagine. I’m guessing the latter.
Well, unfortunately, I think they would do this if they could, but I’m not stupid enough to believe that they can. Will you please stop insulting my intelligence?
Okay, for the logic impaired:
- I hate talking with bigots about this stuff.
- I’m going to a lot of trouble so I won’t have to deal with them as much for the next 3 years.
- The stuff I’m doing is less effort than enduring this scum for three years.
- Therefore, I’m doing this to try to get rid of, or at least away from, them.
Damn, Cis, you must have gone to some really shitty schools, as did I. The fact that some schools shirk their responsibilities towards their students does not mean that schools do not have these responsibilities.
What was the thought/action process after that?
I know you are, but what am I?
You can basically just counter him with his own freakin lines! It’s fun!
It was to explain it as I have done. Since you all know my recent posts so intimately, I’m sure you recall it.
It’s been far too long since the last meltdown. Why not just apologise to everyone and say you’ll try to be a better Christian now, and avoid the 2 months of insulting the admin on other boards before the inevitable comeback?
the trick is getting old, Lib.
My high school did, but it wasn’t a mainstream school. It was an alternative (but public) school founded with the intent of providing an atmosphere free of intimidation, harassment and hatred. I was very happy there, as was my younger sister. If you want to send your kids there you’d have to move across the country, but I’d be happy to e-mail you the information if you’re interested.
I agree. You should stop playing it.
I really thought you were above “I’m rubber, you’re glue” arguments.
Do you even read the content of the posts before responding? This makes absolutely NO sense.
In defense of Lib’s cryptic and possibly overly-harsh criticism, I see that a false dichotomy was set up. It was suggested that the OP was harassed because he was “liberal, and not a bigot like they are.”
Though anyone that suggests that gays need to be killed in as violent a manner as possible is clearly a bigot: 1) liberal is NOT the opposite end of the spectrum from bigotry, 2) bigots can some from any point on the political spectrum, and 3) if one were truly to believe that all conservatives were bigots, then that would indeed be bigotry itself.
So, I think I understand what his beef was, but Libertarian? Spit it out next time. I bet dwalin might have conceded the point if you hadn’t jumped in and called him a bigot.
I think that’s part of LIb’s problem as of late smoke, and a reason why some of us are getting crazed.
He talks very cryptically, and when asked to explain himself or his point further, just adds more mystery to the tone…note that when someone asked him who Fred Phelps was his answer was “A democrat from Kansas”, leaving out the rather OBVIOUS, MORE IMPORTANT description.
Not all of us like to trudge through riddles wrapped up in enigmas everyday, and his response above to twisty was just fucking ridiculous.
Smoke, I thought I said exactly that and spat it out as best I could. Jar, I’m sorry for snipping at you. I’ve been uncomfortable for some time with our enmity. I don’t blame you for being mad at me. I should have been kinder to you.
Lib, it is my nature to forgive at the drop of a hat. You know as well as I that have been through the same shit on these boards…where I was ripped on constantly for some bizarre and unpleasant behavior, and it took me a DOG’S AGE to learn what everyone was talking about.
Do I still fall of the asshole wagon sometimes? Of course, but I really made an effort to listen to what folks had to say.
I understand your feelings about the election. I understand this is a scary time in American Politics, and it seems like if Bush wins again we’re f-ing DOOMED. But no matter what happens, the best example you can set is one of a calm, determined, educated and OPEN MINDED Libertarian/Liberal/Christian and Person.
I’m fairly sure that that’s all anyone is trying to say in any of these threads lately.
I’m not sure how to word this, so I’m gonna just give it a shot, with the caveat that I’m not calling anyone names, and that I obviously like this place more than not, or I wouldn’t bother staying.
Oftentimes, I get what Lib is talking about right away. I also tend to think that those who would claim otherwise “get” it, too, but as often happens on any board, attempts are sometimes made to nitpick language and parse phrases to the point where the original intent isn’t even under discussion anymore.
That said, as a semi-ex-Catholic myself, I tend to take umbrage at the way in which lampooning of religion and tradition is so OK that it can be mentioned with the assurance that most others will agree and laugh along. Obviously, people invariably get called out on statements that begin with “All [group x] are [y],” but, for example, there would be much more vitriol in a thread devoted to celebrating the death of Ted Kennedy.
I know that the current administration is largely to blame for this backlash against religion and tradition. As someone whose politics can largely be summed up as “live and let live”, this administration and the party behind it is not one that I can relate to. But there ARE still conservatives, or libertarians, or classical liberals out here whose beliefs share very little with the current ideologues-in-charge.
Have I rambled anough? I know I have. I can understand the desire to want to point out false dichotomies like that in the OP, sometimes even with a bit of vitriol. I tend to write and erase posts alot, though, which allows me cooling off time, during which I generally give posters the benefit of the doubt (excepting certain parties.)
I just gonna go ahead and hit submit before I erase this too.
? I’m a little confused, Christ is all the rage right now (hm, after writing that I see it might be a bad choice of words… or maybe just fitting). Passion of the Christ (and associated merchandise), national Prayer day, and the “Praise God, Pass the Ammo” attitude of many religious types (of course, not all) come to mind. And unless you’re talking about political tradition, Bush is up there preaching against gay rights, abortion, and civil liberties while he pushes faith based initiatives, the drug war, and Orwellian style “progress”. Sadly, The President’s plan for tomorrow sounds a lot like the “traditional” 50s American red scare or the discrimination faced by many groups throughout U.S. History, which sadly has been progressing along for the past couple of years without even enough backlash to stall it.
If I went off topic or missed something along the way I apologize, I’ve been up studying WAYYYY too long and my wooshOmeter went to hell sometime yesterday.
