I am so Jonesing for Lost

…that I checked “Selected Political Writings of John Locke” out of my library.

When you take it back, don’t forget to pick up some Rousseau.

The pig hunting chapter is my favourite.

Hell yes! It’s not supposed to start until January or February 2008? What the hell?! Football season will be pretty much over before we get the first episode. sigh.

The writers strike may affect if and when it starts. The last thing I read said that “24” wasn’t going to premier as planned because they are committed to running a new show every week for the duration. Since “Lost” wants to do the same thing, there is some doubt about it’s return this winter, but no decision has been made.

Don’t forget [Desmond] David Hume!

(My advice: Don’t read “Bad Twin” by Gary Troup. When J.J. Abrams said he read the novel and finally understood why the character deserved to die, he really wasn’t kidding.)

Possibly apropos of nothing, a promo during last night’s ABC programming indicated that Lost would return in “2008.” No more specific information offered and of course nothing on-screen indicating what effect if any the writers strike would have.

You do know about the webisodes right? One per week til the season premiere… Comes out on some phone service first but the week after it’s posted on ABC. There’s a Jack and a Hurley so far (special appearance by Frogurt!).

Then why did ABC officially announce that it’s airing eight episodes this winter even despite the writers’ strike?

As currently planned, Lost will air 8 episodes starting in February; no specific day or time have been determined yet though. Any more episodes are unlikely at this time due to the writer’s strike.

Damon Lindelof said in an interview that he wishes ABC would not air the episodes at all as he feels that it breaks up the flow they had designed for the rest of the series to air 8 this season then either 16 or 24 next season. He thinks that it would be better to air nothing this year and then air the 16 episodes they had planned for this season next year. But, ABC needs something to air so they are going with what they have.

The latest rumored time is 8 pm on Monday’s but take that with as large a grain of salt as you can find.

You’re jonesing? Several nights ago my subconscious wrote me into 3 new episodes of Lost. I’d think I had woken up from one dream and then it would start another. Between the first and second episode it looked like my character had died and I joined Charlie, Boone and Shannon in a back room and said I guess I was in the dead club now. Then I got pulled back into another episode as my character wasn’t really dead. They were pretty weird though so I don’t think I can sell the ideas to Lost.

My addiction is fully under control - I am in recovery - I no longer care if Lost ever returns.

As soon as you hear, “Previously on Lost…”, you’ll relapse. We all do. :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re kidding. He refuses to write more and then tells them he thinks it’s wrong to air the episodes they have without the ones he hasn’t yet written?

I’m not saying the writers are wrong for striking - far from it, I think the studios have been badly screwing over the writers on DVD and other new-media revenue - but it’s disingenuous to say that ABC is doing something wrong by airing a partial season when it’s (at least somewhat) in his power to change that fact.

Well, that decision to not air episodes until Feb, so they could run the full season uninterrupted, seems rather silly now, doesn’t it?

I needs me some “Lost”, too. It’s as much the social factor of getting my “Lost” friends together as anything else-- we always make it a fun evening of socializing and drinking. Fortunately there are plenty or other excuses to do all that!

I don’t have a text source to quote (I heard it on the Jay and Jack Lost podcast) but he was saying that after ABC agreed to the 3, 16 episode seasons he and the other writers laid out the rest of the series on that assumption. By changing that, the flow of the buildup/climax/resolution they had set up for each season is disrupted. He says that if the 8 are aired standalone, then they will have to rewrite their outline for the rest of the series which will be detrimental to the story. As an example he compares it to the third season where there were 6 episodes aired followed by a long gap before the rest of the season.

Now that you;'ve admitted you also have a problem, your on your way to recovery as well…

Hi, I’m sim, and I used to be addicted to Lost - I now spend my wednesday nites doing something more meaningful I smell the daisies and play Guitar hero!

jackdavinci:

Actually, I didn’t know about those. So far, I only see the Jack one, I guess the Hurley one is less than a week old.

Thanks!!

He can pry my 8 episodes out of my cold dead hands! lol

I don’t think it’s going to be all that disruptive. The 8th episode already happens to end on a mini-cliffhanger. I think it was a mistake to go to extremes with the scheduling. A 6 episode pod for a 22ish episode season was an awkward place to put a break. But having to wait til February to see 16 episodes back to back is almost as silly. They should have just pretended they were a cable channel and aired one half of the season back to back, has a long winter break, and then aired the second half back to back. In between they could squeeze the holiday nonsense or 10-12 episodes of another series.

But 8 episodes in Spring, 8 in Fall, and 16 next Spring is fine too. Although even if the writer’s strike turns out OK, we have the potential actor’s strike in June…

This seemed like a perfect place to post this.
