I apoligize to all Wiccans on behalf of my friends

Today I went to a taping of the Power of 10. Outside in the queue I was talking to the woman behind me. She was wearing this cute headband with cat ears on it. When she talked I noticed she had a pair of fangs and was wearing a necklace of a pentagram. Not the “devil worshiping” (point down) version but a Wiccan version (point up).

She was flirting with me a little and I noted that every so ofter she made a cat like mewing sound. I thought it was precious but my friends (female) did not like it.

One friend of mine took my picture with her cell phone and something happened causing the preview to be me but when you select it the image changes to a a blurry one of the person behind me (kitty woman)

When my friend saw it she thought that the woman did something and bluntly asked her if she practiced witchcraft. Her reply was yes and my friend accused her of hexing the phone. She (the kitty woman) insisted she would never do anything like that but my friend didn’t believe her.

Both my friends went on to tell me that Wiccan people drink blood during their ceremonies. I tried to educate my friends that that is untrue but they refused to believe me.

So to anyone Wiccan’s out there who may encounter my friends I wish to apologize for their ignorance.

Your friends … do they honestly believe that people can cast spells on cameras? That’s kind of weird, and they need to get over it.

On the other hand, Kitty Woman sounds a bit unwrapped herself. Are you sure she was a Wiccan? You may be apologizing to the wrong group. In any case, it wasn’t your fault.

I’m guessing that catgirl wasn’t as sexy as catgirls are meant to be according to Japanese pop culture, or else you would most assuredly have posted a (non-blurry) picture.

If she had really ‘hexed’ the phone the pic would have shown your female friend in her lingerie.

It’s a good thing I’ve never joked about going to the baby sacrifice in front of your friends (as I have with a few people who damn well knew better!) before going to the various pagan and Wiccan things I’ve gone to over the last few years! (As an interested seeker-type; I’m not committed to anything in particular religiously, except that I do definitely lean towards Wicca in a lot of ways.)

Well she said she was a Wiccan and I’m not one who tells someone tbey are not a faith they say they are.

My friend honestly felt she did something yet when I made the suggestion to just delete the picture she wouldn’t do that.

snicker

I have a friend who is firmly convinced I am a devil worshiper. To her, pagan=devil worshiper. I have tried to explain to her that I don’t even believe in the Christian devil, let alone worship him. She says, knowingly, “that’s what he wants you to think.”

Despite this disagreement we get along well. We just try to avoid discussions about religion.

I wouldn’t say she looked sexy in her clothing but I felt she was cute. However I’m not going to ask a stranger if I can take a picture of him or her. I feel it would be inappropriate to ask that.

Of course Wiccans can cast spells on/curse camera phones…!

How else can you explain Verizon’s RAZR V3m…?

So, did you get Catwoman’s phone number? I gotta tell you, I’m glad that you found the cat get-up and mewing precious, because if I ran across a woman doing that, I would have sprained my eyes from rolling them. Maybe it’s a guy thing, finding that cute.

Hear, hear.

There’s something about the use of the word “precious” in this context that redlines my gag-o-meter.

This is a girl dressed as a cat… I would generally assume that her primary goal is to get her picture taken and posted on the internet.

When I say precious I was referring to a coworker of Eve.

I did try to get her E-mail address (prior to the mewing) because I’m on some audience filler lists and I was going to send them to her. Instead due to lack of paper (thank og) my friend gave her his card instead with his E-mail address and he will forward it to me.

Yup, it’s definitely a guy thing - the more I think about a woman mewing in conversation, the more I want to slap the mews right out of her. Or I guess you could say that wanting to slap another woman acting precious is a girl thing. We try to run over each other on the road, too.

If Wiccans really could hex cameras, I’d be seriously considering signing up as one. I am very non-photogenic, and don’t like having my picture taken.

And if Wiccans really could hex cell phones, there wouldn’t be nearly as many people annoying others with their phones at the movies.

How is this possible? (Obviously it’s not from “witchcraft.”) But how is it? You mean the preview is a clear picture of you, but when you select it it shows up as Cat Ears? And there was no picture taken of Cat Ears? How can this be?

Missbunny thats exactly what I mean. On my friends Razr it’s a clear picture of me, when you go to view it, the picture changes to a blurry picture of the woman with the cat ears.

It just goes to show the truth of the old saying:

You can pick your friends, and you can pick a Wiccan, but you can’t pick your friend’s Wiccan.

Now, I am not a Wiccan, but I spent enough time learning about some Wicca basics and both versions (point up vs. point down) mean different things in Wicca, neither of which is “I worship the devil.” People use pentacles for different reasons at different times, and not everyone who wears a pentacle is Wiccan/not every Wiccan wears a pentacle.

From what you’ve said, the girl is the kind of Pagan I avoid as a fellow Pagan. At least you’re trying to defend her to your friends. She’s weird in general, and a really bad example of “Wiccans don’t generally do the unorthodox things you think they do” that you’re trying to talk your friends into believing. At least you’re trying to get them to be more open minded, and I thank you for that.

Couldn’t agree more. Though I might try a squirt bottle first, seeing as this person is obviously at least half feline.

MannyL, your friends sound kind of gullible. Have they ever been exposed to people not involved in mainstream religions? If not, now would be an excellent opportunity to screw with them.

But for what it’s worth, there are a lot of people out there who would prefer to believe the worst of people who aren’t Christian or Jewish. My mom is a great example. When I told my mom that I no longer identified with Christianity or Judaism (I was raised in a mixed-faith household), I thought her head would explode. I didn’t tell her anything else - for all she knows, I could be Hindu or Bhuddist. Whatever I am, it doesn’t matter to her. Since I no longer subscribe to the religion(s) in which I was raised, she assumes I’m atheist. I haven’t really decided yet and I don’t want to have that conversation with her for many reasons, not the least of which is her view on evolution - she doesn’t entirely believe in it. Being a former archaeologist, this chafes a bit.

Anyway, my point is that people will believe anything and usually seem to want to believe the worst of others, especially when it comes to religion.

EDITED TO ADD: There is a subset of Pagans who self-identify as a particular animal in a human’s body. It’s a pretty small following, but perhaps that was who you ran into?
