There are those who believe that a one-season anomaly does not disprove or prove any given climate theory. On the other hand, there are those who believe that a single cold winter or temperate summer proves that global warming is a hoax.
Therefore, my heart is gladdened by their consistency. You see, you might think that they would keep their mouths shut when the weather is unnaturally hot, like this summer on the east coast. Because otherwise, I could accuse them of hypocrisy.
But, every single one of the people who snerked “yuk yuk yuk, it’s plenty cold this winter, where’s your global warming NOW? yarblgarbl!!!” is apologizing, and, indeed, has posted many a screed, even on this message board, reversing their previous position in light of the heat wave gripping the Atlantic states this summer. Because they’re consistent and not hypocrites.
You seem to have missed what Rush said last winter when it snowed in Texas. That was absolute proof that there is no global warming. The fact that the planet had the hottest July ever in recorded history can not overcome the Rush observation. Listen to Rush to get the truth.
Statistically speaking the scientific view is that one year does not make a trend. Unfortunately for the deniers there are already several decades to check were we are going and it is still up in temperature.
What it is worrisome about the current record years of heat is that they are taking place during a low period of solar activity, based on history it should be colder. Instead what we got was the appearance that the warming had stopped (once again, the decade analysis and the ocean temperature increase showed that was not the case). Clearly nature forcings are still happening but they are being overwhelmed by the man-made ones. Once the sun begins its cycle of more activity even more of the human caused forcings (like CO2) will be added to what nature is doing, we are headed for bad heat increases in the near future and worse in the far future if nothing is done.
Forget the east coast. It’s fricking triple digits in Moscow this summer! Russia is in the middle of a 500-year-drought, thousands have died already, and they’re talking food shortages from crop failures.
Exactly! We had them on the ropes in the 80’s but Reagan (may a choir of angels sing him to his ascension to his place in the Triumvirate Plus One) was too kind-hearted to deliver the death blow. But now GAWD HIMSELF has decreed that the Communist Menace must be finished off as a warning to the Socialist-siding US of God’s A.
That’s right… it was the volcano. I assume you mean the one in Iceland.
You’re aware that this was a relatively minor eruption, much smaller than Mount Pinatubo in 1991, and is not expected to have any significant impact on global temperatures, right?
You’re aware that volcanic eruptions can lead to cooling due to the clouds scattering incoming solar radiation, right?
Or did you just make this shit up about the “weather went wonky”.
And you “enjoyed the low 90’s”, so you hope for more? Are you also looking forward to drought in California, and the subsequent rise in food prices? That will be fun, eh? One of the biggest impacts of global climate change will be the impact on water resources and food growing.
Which is stressing the Egyptians, believe it or not. I had no idea Egypt was an importer of wheat or any other foodstuff; it used to export grain to the whole Mediterranean basin. Egypt was the breadbasket of the Roman Empire.
…and, in fact, I heard a number of people here in Troll Country blaming that Icelandic volcano for our relatively cool spring this year. I think they were mostly speaking tongue-in-cheek, though. “Those <redacted> Icelanders! We loan them all that money, and this is the thanks we get!”
In reality, as has been said, it was a pretty small eruption, which only made the world news because it happened to create a major disruption to international air travel. If the ash had stayed closer to home, no one outside of Iceland would remember it by now.
Funny you should mention that. The link that GIGObuster posted shows a two-year cooler period after major volcano eruptions. This happening so quickly after the eruption in Iceland this spring is contrary to past trends, to say the least. It’s possible this heat wave would be even worse without the cooling effect from Eyjafjallajökull.
This sceptic is suffering the coldest winter in Lima in more than 40. most regions of Peru are experiencieng all-time (or at least very-long-time) lows. No station in the city of Lima had recorded single digit (celsius) temperatures basicallt forever.
This sceptic knows that my cold weather doesn’t deny or confirm global warming.
This sceptic knows that your hot weather doesn’t deny or confirm global warming.
I also applaud the consistency of my country’s warmists who are surprisingly quiet this year.
As it was mentioned many times before weather is not climate, and regional effects are not global. Right now La Nina is affecting the South American region.
I don’t understand how people discredit the idea that a very cold winter is evidence for a lack of global warming and then in the next sentence go on to say hot weather clearly supports it.
The cite GIGObuster provided has an average temperature change of a whole 0.6 degrees C in the past 40 years. Considering the daily and seasonal variations far exceed that, I think the only rational position is to realize that your subjective evaluation of any weather has nothing in common with global warming theories. Nothing.
