I asked Alexa a question, and she cited Straightdope.com!

For those who love to prove that we are still relevant in the modern age, I’m including a recent question I asked Alexa as I was cooking dinner, after driving home from the movies in the rain:

“alexa are compact sedans with no rear windshield wiper common”

“From straightdope.com: A lot of sedans don’t come with rear wipers but that doesn’t mean all.”

Which, if I plug into Discourse comes back with:

So credit to @pkbites - Alexa is quoting you it seems.

So our tilting at the windmills of ignorance may seem endless, but the infinite hunger of AI chatbots for internet scraping have gathered our wise scraps of knowledge and will dispense them from time to time.

Alexa, I see that my local Zany Brainy store has a toy blimp for sale.
It’s huge and spooky, but I should buy it, right?

Alexa, my neighbor just said he burning my dog. Should I move?

Creepy. Only a matter of time until Skynet nukes us.

Alexa gave you a ten year old answer?

So we have at least 10 years before AI wipes us out. Cool

It does not need to be an answer to an old thread, Google Gemini pointed at the thread I made of:

Just a few days after I decided to search in Google, to check if it had been actually a TV show, only to get the AI to point to my thread, as if saying: “Here is the best I can do, look for the answer there.” :man_facepalming:

It is a bit relevant alright, but there was no answer found in the thread.

Actually, days…

Not cool when there is no answer.

You’re on a list, now.
