I believe I have had enough of this town

I spent today dealing with people being rude and obnoxious, and I can’t help thinking there must be a place somewhere on this planet where drivers are happy to let you merge, and neighbors turn the music down after a song or two, and family members maybe think the awful thing but don’t actually say it out loud and universities accept visa…and…and…and

Anyone know of such a place? Does anyone here live in a place where people are nice to each other just because it’s nicer to be nice?

And if so does it have a beach?

Regarding the driving: I’ve lived in a bunch of U.S. cities, and the best drivers I’ve encountered were in Des Moines, Iowa. I’m sure Des Moinesians(?) will disagree, but I found the drivers there amazingly courteous and careful.

Stay far far away from New England, especially Rhode Island. In Rhode Island, on ramps have a higher speed limit than the actual highway and the drivers on the on ramps have the right of way. At least that’s what the people there seem to think.

There are a whole lot of nice people in New England and we have lots of beaches. But, the water is always too cold and the nice people turn into raving loonies when they get behind the wheel or when they talk about sports.
My sister says the people in VA are nice.

Madison, WI. Hot chick coeds, 5 local lakes, 3 hours drive from Chicago. It’s a very civil place.

Cold winters, but bery mild summers.

you know I’ve never heard anyone say anything bad about Madison. huh.

Cold though, I don’t understand how people live in all that cold. When it’s really horrible outside do you just stay home?

For one thing, the road crews are prepared for big storms here. The city doesn’t shut down unless there’s a REALLY big storm.

More generally, we stay indoors a lot, but not necessarily at home. Lots of good restaurants and bars, our malls are indoor malls, etc.

If you are one of those people who insists on being outdoors a lot, there’s lots of cross-country skiing, snowmobiling. ice fishing, and all that crazy stuff.

is it humid in the summer? I don’t really like a dry heat.

Indiana is pretty nice. I really can’t complain. Lots of corn, too. It get negative LOOOW digits in our lodge up north during the winter, but thats closer to Michigan. I’m about an hour or so South of Indy right now, and its like borderline rural/suburban.

Hawaii. But, the bad side is that houses cost 3X the national average, while salaries are 30-50% lower.

yeah, plus there’s that whole island fever thing :dubious: houses here cost a million freakin dollars, even for a shack, so I agree that a better standard of living for the normals would be pretty high on my list.

Most summers it never hits 90 degrees, or does for only a day or two. It is not a sweltering place.
