I believe I may have located a large segment of the world's moron population

Don’t get me wrong, I like Fox Sports, probably more than ESPN’s web site.

(ESPN’s Motto: There is no life outside of the east coast)

But do this - at the end of every story is a comment forum.

Oh. My.

My thinking here is that between the IMDB forums and these, we’ve got most of them rounded up into their little corner of the internet.

I think youtube still has 'em beat!

I sometimes wonder whether the SDMB is like the house of Wonko the Sane, which was built inside-out (exterior siding on the inside, plaster and baseboards and hung pictures on the outside). Wonko then moved in and declared himself to be outside the asylum and away from the crazy people.

Don’t forget GameFAQs.

Sunspace: Great idea for a GQ: “Toothpicks - how do I use? Need answer fast!”

Even more illiterate: high school sports blogs.

Especially one in Kentucky: Bluegrasspreps.com … How do these kids even dress themselves?

Yeah, Youtube probably has it, but Yahoo Chat must give it a run for its money in the moron stakes. I used to go there all the time about ten years ago, and since then I drop by for five minutes every other year. This I did last week, and I swear I felt like talking to the sexbots would probably have been the best conversation.

There used to be a yahoo chat room in politics, was called “intelligent discussion” or something similar. The only one I could ever abide. After yahoo broke down, it was gone forever, people scattered to the winds.

Somehow or other I wandered over here and found a home. The few times I’ve meandered to other sites, I just come crawling back here, sucking my thumb and whimpering from the sheer weight of the stupid.

Not that we don’t have a goodly share, and Lord knows, I can certainly contribute to bringing the average down.

Those guys are amateurs compared to the /b/tards.

Yeah, most of 4chan is pretty idiotic, but /b/ is truly abysmal.

Yeah, but they’re doing it on purpose, for humor’s sake.

Right?

You mean you actually found anyone other than the bots? Last time I went over there, it was all bots. They were even hitting the rooms in groups of three or four and telling each other about this OMG hot sitez they’d found.

What is /b/?

Funny you should ask; I had a strange experience. The short answer is that you’re right, they werre mostly bots and it was probably the most bot-infested I’d seen it. The strange thing was that when I logged in, it asked me to enter one of those crazy number pictures (there’s a name for them that I forget) to make sure I was a real sentient life form. So, I expected things to be better.

I assume the bots can’t do this, so their owners must have decided it’s worth the effort to manually introduce each one to the system.

They have been cracked for a while now. One possibility for a successor is ALIPR .

Thank you, RiverRunner. That’s all news to me. I hope we flesh-and-blood types might be able to buy a little more time…

Mr Bus Guy, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for your endeavors to identify these concentrated groups of morons and posting your findings where others and I might endeavor to attempt to avoid them. Please be sure that your efforts have not been undertaken in vain. Perhaps there is some fitting title or other such award, that this great board of ours, might feel appropriate to bestow on you at this time, in lieu of well deserved monetary compensation. It seems at this point in time, morons and other such undesirables such as stupid people , are breeding like flys in a manure factory, with really no end in sight.

As much as I hate this site, Ebaum’s World is made truly, unabashedly, mind-warpingly abysmal by those who comment on the videos.

If ever I am forced at gunpoint to view a video on EBW I turn of the comments before all else.

I think that perhaps the subterranean grade curve of all of the forums/comment systems mentioned may look worse than they already are, as there’s probably a lot of cross-pollination. Stupidity attracts its own.

That’s what I would like to believe, and will continue to believe in order to preserve what little faith I have left in humanity.

They cracked the CAPTCHAs? As opposed to hiring a squad of CAPTCHA-farmers in China? Bugger.

I suppose, in a world where digital cameras can recognise not only faces but smiles and take the picture automatically at just the right moment, that image-recognising letters isn;t that big a deal any more.

It appears that way, anyway. From Websense ,
