I bought a Jeep.

Your baby is gorgeous, Johnny.

Can we make it a “Pre-Chrysler SDMB Jeep Club?” Or at least a pre-Chrysler sub-club? I’d barely make it in with my '84 J10, but still…

Congratulations Johnny! Will we see the new car at the next dopefest? We can take a picture of it and put it at on the web somewhere.

In keeping with my habitual method of posting, I’ll throw in a link.

What’s the origin of “jeep”? (10-Mar-2000)

Before someone pops in here and calls me a nimrod, yes, I realize that Johnny L.A. has already posted a picture of the partymobile. I meant we could post a picture of his jeep with some SDMB members draped across the dash, smiling seductively at the camera.

It’s not actually my picture. If you’re still seeing it, it’s because The Recycler hasn’t terminated the ad yet. I could use the pics! I’ll try to drive it up ther Arnold, but as I don’t have a top it will have to be “good” weather. (Make a note of this, folks! Johnny L.A. is actually looking forward to non-Seattle-like weather! That doesn’t happen very often!)

Thanks, Green Bean. I don’t think we can actually form a pre-Chrysler Jeep club. First, there wouldn’t be that many of us. Second, My Cherokee would feel excluded.

RalfCoder: Just get yourself a Willys and tell the wife it’s a Jeep thing. She’ll understand… won’t she?

::sniffle::

Anybody have a spare (AMC or earlier) Jeep I could have? I miss my Wagoneer…:frowning: (anybody want to buy most of an '84 Grand Wagoneer?)

Flatfender CJs are nice, but I want one o’ these: Kaiser-Jeep M715. 5/4 ton rated capacity (offroad), removeable top, fold-down windshield, Dana 70 rear/D60 front axles, 40-inch tires with no lift…

Gunslinger, I’m really sorry for your pranged Wagoneer. Best of luck replacing it.

If you’re looking for an M715 for sale, you could put “M715” and “for sale” into google. I found this one there: http://www.m38a1.com/for_sale.htm

There are a few 715s (in Texas, even!) for sale in Autotrader’s Collector car mag. Problem is, I ain’t got no money :(. I’m hoping to find one with a bad engine at some small-town volunteer fire dept. that’ll give it to me for the cost of hauling it away (I do have a perfectly good AMC 360 sitting in my yard, after all ;))

In case anyone is interested, there is an online petition aimed at telling DaimlerChrysler how Jeepers feel about their changing of the Jeep line. It’s mostly about the change to independent front suspension, but I think the message is clear.

(The thread the link is in is at http://jeepsunlimited.com/ubb/Forum20/HTML/001673.html )

You’re not married, are you Johnny?

No, I think I poisoned the well on that one. She wanted a nice china cabinet to show off grandma’s china, but I talked her into letting me buy the CJ2A instead. The dishes sat in boxes in the basement instead. But the killer was that I mentioned I might get a vanity plate for the Willys that read “HUTCH”. Now I’ll have to sell plasma to get another toy like that…

No, I’m not. How did you know? I’d like to get married, but I would consider as suspect any woman who’d have me for a husband.

Okay, the hutch… Find a CJ2A and a hutch. Buy them both. Put the hutch in the Jeep and say, “See wife? Look how useful the Jeep is! I can carry a hutch home to you… dear… sweetheart… honey…?”

I finally got some photos of my jeep! In case you’re wondering, that’s my new site it’s on.

Sorry Johnny L.A. I don’t come here often. But I just started this thread, CJ or YJ

Maybe you can give me some input. I’d never butcher an old
CJ2 or CJ3. If anything, I’ll use a CJ7. Later

Ya got me on that one, Rectangle. Those guys over at JU seem to be giving some good input though.

In other news, The CJ2A Page is coming along. I’ve scanned all of the images from the Owner’s Manual and I should be done transcribing it next weekend. I should be getting some 40s ads within the next week as well.

You can replace the 6 volt battery in your electrical system with an 8 volt battery. You’ll have to adjust your voltage regulator all the way up, but you’ll end up with a much more reliable system. Be sure to get the polarity right – a lot of older vehicles used a ‘positive ground’.
