I can't get on existing iTunes anymore

I’ve been having an iTunes problem for about a week and have exhausted all possibilities as to what is wrong. It was working fine until one day when I re-booted my laptop. I double clicked the iTunes icon and got a message saying something like “Microsoft has encountered an error and needs to shut down”. And then it gives me the option of sending an error report to Microsoft. When I click on the “more information” button, it tells me that I can solve this problem by downloading the latest version of iTunes.

So, I went to the site and downloaded the latest version of iTunes and I’m still getting the same message. Someone told me that I might have a virus, but I have Nortons and I did a scan and everything was normal. I got so frustrated that I deleted iTunes altogether and tried to start from scratch, but am STILL getting the same error message.

Any ideas??

Eric

Look at this and this for ideas.

Strange - I had the problem mentioned in your second link, and I fixed it by just rebooting the system.

As Sequent referred to, it might not be a problem with iTunes itself, it could be a problem with QuickTime.

Also, it could be a problem with your iTunes library, which, I believe, is not removed by default when you uninstall iTunes. You might want to try moving it somewhere else (by default, I think it’s located in “My Music” on Windows) and starting iTunes to see if that works. If it does, it will create a brand new, empty library, but you might be able to import your old one (although if it is truly corrupted, you might have problems doing this).
