I don’t mean baseball or tetris, I m mean game. The disguised or unspoken interpersonal games that get played in all sorts of situations from courting to conflicts. Getting across what you mean without actually saying it. Maintaining plausible deniability. I’m no good at it. I pick up on what’s going on too late, people pick up signals I don’t realize or intend to send, and I’m generally gameless. Anyone else or is just me?
I am. In my case it is called Asbergers Syndrome.
Give that link a read and if it rings all kinds of bells you might want to see someone about it. But be warned right now this is a “kids” disease. In other words they have just identified it and so only are concentrating on kids who have it and how to help them. It will probably be 20 years before they even start looking at adult Asbergers. Much like they did for ADD & ADHD. They waitied until the diagosed kids grew up before they started to realize that the syndrome doesn’t go away with adulthood. Then they developed ways to help adults.
From talking to a Psychiatrist I found out that I am coping as well as can be expected despite continued effects and so I am not in any kind of therapy. But if I had been able to talk to somebody who understood what life was like for me when I was 18 - 25 it would have been a huge help (I’m now 40).
So if nothing else you know you are not alone.
