Today, my husband’s boss was fired. It was completely unexpected and so far, hubby doesn’t know why it happened. Nor does he know whether he might be next. He just started working there in July, so he doesn’t have a grapevine established, nor does he know the goings-on at the corporate-office level.
We were so excited when he got the job, even tho it meant we had to live 800 miles apart for a couple of years. The pay was great and the opportunity seemed ideal. Now we’re at a loss. Maybe it’ll be OK. Maybe he’ll be bumped up the ladder (he was the #2 guy at the plant) Or maybe he’ll be looking for work again. Actually, I’m scanning on-line listings for him already - just in case. But his area of expertise is pretty specific, and while he had a number of other job offers, none were in places we’d even consider.
So, cross your fingers and send a few good vibes our way, if you wouldn’t mind. The stress of living apart is rough enough without this dumped on top. Thanks.
Thanks, all. He called a bit ago to talk. He found out about the firing from a vendor! And he was the last one at the plant told officially. In fact, he was sure he was going to be fired at the end of the day.
But the VP said they are “committed to making it work” - of course, that’s what they had said to the now-fired boss. The next few weeks could be very interesting. I’d planned to go see him next weekend anyway - wish now it had been this weekend. I feel so helpless right now.
I appreciate the good thoughts. It really does mean a lot to me.
Wow. That’s pretty unprofessional - unless the guy was committing some sort of show-'im-the-door-by-5pm kind of offense, you want everyone to know what’s going down - especially the people under him.
You probably don’t remember, but you were nice to me when I de-lurked. I haven’t forgotten that; it meant a lot to me at the time. Please accept some good vibes and a hug from the newbie.

Incidentally, I spent all last summer 400 miles from mrso. I know how tough that can be.
