And God has killed another kitten. (Didn’t fit in the subject line.)
I called in an order to KFC last night. Don’t ask me why, especially given that for the past two days I’ve been eating killer nachos with chili and sour cream, and I went out for lunch Friday for poutine and hot dogs with the other writers at work.
I was tired. I fell asleep. Coma is more like it, since I had taken my meds earlier. I woke up around 4 AM to find a message on my call answer from KFC asking me to confirm. So poor KFC delivery guy must have been buzzing my apartment, and perhaps got into the building and knocked on the door.
I’m sure this happens frequently, but I can’t help but believe I’ve been blacklisted or something. I’m not calling there for delivery for a long, long time. Probably a good thing, because KFC food can have a nasty effect on my GI tract.
Speaking as an ex-pizza delivery girl - if you want to make it up to them, go to the store in person, explain you fell asleep, order another meal, and leave a tip at the store for the driver who came and missed linking up with you.
It happened to me, twice, when I tried to deliver to someone and they didn’t answer because they were asleep/drunk/whatever. It made my whole week that someone cared enough to come up and apologize, and make things right.
Calling them wouldn’t do much. I don’t feel bad for KFC. They’re owned by Pepsi or something, so I’m sure they can absorb the $10 I would have spent. I just feel bad for the delivery guy (it could have been a girl, but it’s always been a guy). I had the money with a nice tip laid out for him on my desk.
Anyway, like I said, I’m sure it happens frequently. I just won’t order from KFC for a while. (But damn, those Twisters are good!)
I REALLY like Anthracite’s suggestion. More and more I find that it is the small gestures like this that mean the most. Go and make it right. You’ll be remembered as a good guy.
You’ve obviously never dealt with bitchy Québecois delivery call center people. They wouldn’t give a shit. They’d just ask me what I wanted delivered, and possibly charge me for the missing meal. I don’t want to go there. I have to avoid KFC. No problem - there are many other places I can call for delivery. And, I might add, better food than KFC.
Nothing personal towards anyone - it’s because I would then go into my “Delivery Driver’s Ungrateful Customers Rant” (that I did about…wow, 2 years ago? How time flies…)
If you don’t want to pay for the meal that you didn’t eat, that’s fine. But I would suggest at least leave a tip for the poor fellow who made the trip. He’s not owned by Pepsi (at least not outright) and would appreciate the gesture as well as the money. Even if he’s an ass that bitches you out, it’s still the class thing to do; it shows consideration for the person who is often treated like an underling.
Of course, he could be a she and she could be very grateful for your integrity and generosity. Whoop, I seemed to have confused this with one of those porno threads…
What? Don’t you guys get the radio jingle: “K-F-C… de-li-very…?”
No? They must do it only in Canada. Like when McDonald’s had pizza here but not in the U.S. (and no, it wasn’t McPizza, it was “Pi}}a”…er, pretend that the squiggles are “golden arches” on their sides.)
Delivery Man: Hi, did you order the extra large sausage
Customer: Yes, but not pizza…
zzzziiiiiiiiiippppppppppp
queue the cheezey porno music
Now scott, I don’t know what KFC’s deal with paying their drivers is, but when I delivered, I got $4 an hour (US) and that was below minimum wage. I made the rest on tips and 5% commision on my orders. If I brought something back, it was money out of my pocket, since I didn’t get commision if the food wasn’t delivered, I paid for the gas, and I could have been spending my time delivering to someone that paid me. Plus, don’t think they’ll forget. Drivers pass this stuff on to each other. You might not get the same guy next time, but they know who treats the drivers well. You treat him well, you might get freebies next time, you treat him badly, your order will be late, cold and wrong, cause he’ll go to the customer that treats him well first.
Thank goodness KFC doesn’t deliver in Ohio…I’d be in serious trouble. But we did have the McDonald’s pizzas here…in one single location in Fairview Park…and they were really pretty good. They had fried chicken, too.
Dude, KFC is nasty, nasty stuff. Just back away from the greasy, under cooked chicken… (damn I wish there was a barfing smilie…)
I went to a U2 concert with a couple of friends about 3 years ago. We got back to the hotel and ordered pizza at about 10:30 PM. I phoned the place back about 3 times. Finally I’d given up and gone to bed. Then, at 4 o’clock in the morning there’s a knock on the door. I open it and there’s the poor delivery guy with my pizza. I felt kind of bad, but I sent him away anyhow. I really wasn’t in the mood for pizza at 4 in the morning, after having been asleep for about 3.5 hours.
