My SO is a freelance video editor. Great job, lots of freedom, flex time, etc. but no official benefits. He loves
his work (being a nurse, this is a concept foreign to me) and I think that’s great. But no sick time, no vacation days, no paid holidays can be a drag. We want to go away together soon, but he has the capacity of a termite when it comes to planning ahead/saving money. So here’s what I did - I figured out how much income he would accrue in a 40 hour week, and I gave him the money. I like to think of it as buying him a week’s worth of vacation days. Caught him off guard, I think. Now we can really start to plan our trip, and he has less to worry about. I feel pretty damn good right now, in a Touched by An Angel kind of way.
