The backround checks FINALLY came back. The check was clean, but they had concerns about my experience.
Her exact words were, “They’re not saying no, just they want me to interview other people too see if I can’t find someone with more experience.”
Ok, so no, right? sigh I really needed that money.
Awww!
That sucks!
Maybe not turned down yet, but I hate it the way you have to haveexperience just to getexperience.
Sending good thoughts your way.
I am sorry to hear that you didn’t get the job, but I am totally confused…Are you saying that they are making you interview and hire someone else for the same position that you are applying for??
So glad I could help.
I was thinking over your situation last night and how unfair it is that a perfectly capable person isn’t given the opportunity because they don’t have enough experience.
Hell, isn’t anyone they hire, experienced or not, going to have to be shown the ropes and how procedures go at that place? I mean, isn’t that essentially training? Why not train you instead and see what you can do, right?
Le sigh.
I know nobody wanted to give me a retail job when I first moved to Tally because all my previous work experience had been fast food.
Five years as a manager didn’t make a lick of difference to these people.
I was told, “We’re looking for someone with retail experience”.
Yeah, I never had to stock, do inventory, manage employees, handle difficult customers, clean or any of the rest of the stuff a “Retail” employee does.
I got the job I’ve been at now for six years because I was very persistent. It’s at a music store and I had no musical experience beyond marching band, but I kept going back until I was given a job. My boss still tells me that’s what made the difference.
Keep your chin up and something even better will come along.
Perhaps you would, er, like me to make a few calls, see if I can…fix…this matter for you, eh? I mean you’ve been like a bro…sister to me and seeing as you’re one o’ the gang, I mean we gotta look out for each other.
Capiche?
Yes, I know, I can’t spell capiche.
Anyway, still gonna wish you luck just in case management get their heads out their collective butts and give you a shot.
Remember though, brats got your back.
This is good news: they like you and feel you can do the job. Have you considered suggesting that they might take you on at a temporarily lower salary - say for 6 months? Of course, once you pass this probation period, they backdate your pay to the proper level.
Yesssss…Yesss…Make them an offer they can’t refuse!
By the way, this is a GOOD thing? I really took that as a blow-off. Kinda, “well, we don’t want the girl to get upset, so we’ll just say this. Yeah, that’s the ticket.”
Maybe I will go back and see how the “interview process” is going.
harmless, how long did you have to bug them to give you the job?
On and off, in about 3 months I probably stopped in about 4 or 5 times.
Just a quick, “How you been? Remember me? Still ready to work when you need someone! :D”
I had another job, but like you I was looking for a second one.
I just liked the idea of working in a music store.
Boy, if I only knew…
Still, better than any other job I’ve had and I get to play with you guys all day.
If they did a background check, they were pretty serious about things, and that’s very good. Their concern about experience can be beaten by your demonstrating that you’re a quick learner.
Spend a day or two studying up on something that is relevant to the job, that you think will impress them. Then call them back and tell them that you’ve done this because you’re serious about this job, and you’re the best candidate for it. Say a thing or two to demonstrate your new knowledge.
The bad thing that could happen here is that they may already have a candidate that they’re going to hire, and there’s nothing you can do about that. But it’s best to go down swinging.
