As for my opinion on the OP–it’s quite simple: people are under the delusion that the mods don’t allow insults.

Only if they don’t read the stickies. The mods do not allow direct personal insults, they do not enforce a Pollyanna schema whereby anything insulting is verboten. Or course, as you just accused me of trolling in a recent GD thread, perhaps you could use some of that sauce, gander.

That’s probably a pretty poor bet. “That’s a stupid argument” is quite different from “that argument could only have been posted by a stupid person.” The distinction should be eminently clear.

Apparently the mods can do it anytime they want. Lacking any violation of rules or indications otherwise. But it is easier for them to just create rules on the fly so that they can use their position to select what can be posted based on their personal preferences.
