I must say that stumbling onto this place is one of the best things that ever happened to me. And even in this instance, when I don’t believe that Tuba has been very clear (or very correct), I support her 100%. I don’t have to agree with her to respect her. And I respect her unconditionally.

The long sig thing was a bit wearisome. I’ve seen that at several other boards, as well.
If we can’t cut and paste, then it will be pretty difficult for people to provide cites. But then, that’s why we have “fair use” laws.
I agree with Johnny L.A.'s previous post, and with what Lib just said. I think mercy is in order in this case.

Look. Every anti-ban argument comes down to one of two arguments:
- “The mods/admins are unfair. The rules are unfair. Who will be next in the reign of terror of the unhuman mods? Who’s posting-blood will slake their unspeakable thirsts? I fear for my very life!!!”
or
- “Yeah, < poster > did something that was obviously against the rules, but he’s a friend of mine and therefore is entitled to special treatment.”

C’mon. Tuba has posted in multiple threads (to the extent that she’s actually taken the rarely heard of step of crossposting) to say “Please, don’t fight with them, don’t argue, and for the love of Cecil do NOT go over there and continue the disagreement.”
And what’s the first thing that Lucki does? He waltzes over there and starts throwning the SDMB’s name around. That’s sure to calm things down. :rolleyes:
His thread title over there (“A Straight Doper Steps Up”) identifies himself as a member of the Straight Dope, his first paragraph (the disclaimer one) mentions it and he mentions it a third time as a face-slapping challenge (“Surely all you big angry white nationalist folk can debate one little queerboy from the straight dope? Thought so. It’s on :biggrin:.” )
Tuba and IIRC a couple of Mods at least (** UncleBeer, Dr. Matrix and Euty**?) have all said “Don’t go startin’ trouble”. He goes and intentionally starts trouble. As a reward, there’s at least two threads saying *Lucki should be reinstated. If what he did isn’t a banning offense then what is?!

For whatever it’s worth, I think Lucki Chaarms made a serious error, but not a malicious one. I think the mods did the right thing in banning him to make it clear that they were serious about their efforts to prevent a boardwar. But I think that, once Lucki Chaarms has e-mailed the appropriate mods with a sincere apology/ promise not to do it again/ abject grovel, he should be re-instated.
Then again, I am not a mod, and they are welcome to do what they think is best for the board.
Fenris-btw, I think you should know, there IS a guy named Fenris over there too.
I know we quote from sites. HOWEVER, they were posting entire threads over there, sort of like Metatus or whatever it is.
A) One last thing: I like Lucki. I don’t think he acted out of an urge to spite the mods, or out of malice, but at the same time he blatently disregarded a pretty serious request (and a reasonable one). And I don’t fault astro for his loyalty to Lucki…it’s just that these threads NEVER do any good and if I was a mod, I’d be pretty annoyed when I saw 'em.

“Fenris” is a pretty common user-name and since white supremecists have latched onto Norse mytholgy, it’s not a huge surpise that someone there would take “Fenris”. IIRC, there’s a “Baldur” too. But for the record, in case anyone’s curious, he ain’t me. (For one, I’m Jewish. For another, I’m much cuter

Just FYI, it appears that the SFMB has removed the post that copied the text of this entire thread earlier today, per a copyright complaint from Ed Zotti. This is what their senior mod said in that thread. A couple of them got a little miffed and claimed “fair use”, but it seems as if the SFMB is being pretty reasonable about complying with that request. They even removed a post above that one that referenced this thread.
So I believe this resolves that particular issue.

This sounds suspiciously like the ol’ “If you don’t like the thread, why are you reading it?” ‘rebuttal’. If it is, then my response is “Because I am defending the Admin’s decision in addition to stating my displeasure with this sort of thread.” The alternative would be to start a third thread on the topic. And I since I think two threads is two too many, three would certainly be counter-productive.
