I discovered ginger brandy tonight.

I was just going to get some beer, and then I saw three versions of it: DeKuypers, Phillips, and …something else.

Grabbed the liquor store guy. “What do you mix it with?” No one had a clue and it wasn’t in The Book. Grabbed the Phillips version because I’m from Minnesota (what, need a better reason?).

Damn. Why haven’t any of you alkies told me about this stuff before? Short glass over ice, that’s it; nice kick of gingery fire at the end.

This night is not going to end well for me.

God this stuff is good.

Mix?

Why mix? (Why ice? Brandies, even the flavoured stuff, have always done better for me in a snifter, so they can be warmed by your hand and release their vapours.)

And the Overindulgence Fairy even took the hangover away.

This is going to be bad.

I only asked because I’d never heard of the stuff before - thought there was something new in school, that’s all.

But this stuff is wonderful. Here I’ve been searching for a better ginger BEER. Pshaw. Who needs it now.

Gee, thanks for giving me something else to try! :stuck_out_tongue:

I like Brandy too much.

It sounds like a nasty mix of flavors to me.

Agreed. This sounds delicious. Off to change the grocery list…

That sounds like a wonderful combination, biting and warm, mmm.

I love the stuff, although I don’t drink it straight. It makes the best Tom & Jerry EVER. It also makes a damned good eggnog. I like a shot of it in a cup of tea as a lovely hot toddy. I had 3 of those last night (I have a yucky cold).

And it’s delicious with a good ginger ale as a mixer.

My brother introduced me to ginger brandy in 1991, when we drank together legally for the first time. Eleven shots of it later, he had a friend of ours carry me home and deposit me safely on the sofa. Yes, we “shot” ginger brandy.

Yep, good stuff… now I’m thinking about getting a bottle, and I rarely drink. I should probably visit my brother, too.

Domaine de Canton (ginger liqueur) is some seriously nice stuff, although I don’t think it qualifies as “ginger brandy”.

Shake it with lemon juice (basically making a DdC sour) and it’s awfully good.
