We just hit the annual average amount of snow of 175" here in da central UP for the first time in a few years, and it feels like a lot, if for no other reason that the bulk of it came late in the year. So that’s… hmmm… 14.5 feet? Of course not all of it’s on the ground right now, but the banks in my front yard are over 30" tall, and our snowplow guy had to bring in a front-end loader to pile the snow up because he was afraid he would run out of room to plow it. Yay! Real winter!
We got plenty o’ Finlanders here, come on up. We have saunas, beer, and vodka. It’s rarely too cold in da UP.

14,510 Finlanders in my town. Don’t know how many saunas, but the more the better.

We’re right across the lake from you, and though I can’t find any statistics as to how many Finns live in my town, this page says that 16% of the population of the UP identifies at Finn. They’re certainly the most visible ethnic group. There’s a Finnish language show on the local TV station, for example, and we have a couple stores selling Finnish goods.
So tell me… how do you pronounce “sauna”?
Oddly enough, my tiny podunk little town in eastern Connecticut has a Finnish-American club. Who knew!

I trust that you already have or are clearing everything out of your basement now, given the significant chance of flooding this spring, and are installing a check valves and a shut-off valves on both your sewage line and sump-pump discharge line, and battery backup, gas generator, discharge hose and alarm for your sump-pump.
Did you miss the part about going to bed and drinking heavily?
So, the helmet I get - downhill skiing and all, trees (RIP Sony Bono), etc.
But the tux and bow-tie? is that your standard skiing outfit?

There are some questions for which you really don’t want to know the answer .
all that skin, and no bare boobies (of the female persuasion)??
were you wearing a helmet cam for the last sequence, when you were following the previous skier down the hill?

Hey, it is a ski school after all.
No. Point-and-shoot handheld compact digital camera with a video function. (But I would have used a helmet cam if I had one then.)
One of our other Saska-dopers has had a bad snow experience today:

Alberta driver recalls ‘horrific’ pileup
EDMONTON - While the cleanup continues a day after one of the largest snowfalls to hit the Edmonton area in decades, some are just happy to be alive.
“There was very few of us that walked away unscathed from that accident. It was horrific,” said Mike Hogue, whose truck was one of the 100 vehicles piled across Hwy. 2 near Leduc, Alta., before noon Thursday.
“They were being gurneyed out and severely wounded, a lot of lacerations,” Hogue said. “It was something I never want to experience again; the sights, the sounds - it was very grim.”
Hogue recalled coming over a rise and realizing there was no way for many to avoid a collision. After being rear-ended by a minivan, he got out of his car only to see a cattle-hauler beginning to jackknife on the hill.
“There were people screaming and running away from the two semis which were still in motion. Then I looked up the highway and that’s when the Greyhound bus came over the hill. He jammed on the binders and went right sideways. I thought he was going to flop it. It was just surreal,” he said, adding if one of the trucks didn’t go into the ditch, he would not have come out uninjured.
Medical personnel from Edmonton to Wetaskiwin prepared for the worst.
As potential patient numbers rose to 300, a code orange was called to let medical staff across the province know what to be ready for.
There must be Finns in the area. Only Finns would be that crazy.

Come to think of it, more like a cross between SOW-na and SOWah-na.

As long as it’s not saw-na, it’s all good with me!
Reading that gives me chills - Jim and I drove through that area through some pretty bad conditions about a month ago.
Well we escaped the worst down here in Hampshire (although it was snowing heavily for most of the day, roads stayed clear), but it was a very different story further north. Parts of north Wales have had 50cm of snow, and up in Cumbria… Aerial video shows cars buried in snow in Cumbria - BBC News

We got our foot of snow in 24 hours last night. Roads are closed east of Denver into Kansas due to blizzard conditions.
They even played a World Cup qualifying match in it last night. It was crazy.
