It's Fucking Snowing

May 9th. It’s fucking snowing. What the fuck is that all about?
(Ottawa)

Maybe you’re getting the storm we had last week (it’s down to friggin’ -3ºC again tonight - I’m so tired of moving all my plants in and out, in and out…).

I’ve been gardening today. (Vancouver Island)

Yeah, it snowed here in Edmonton on the 4th. There’s still some snow on the ground. I couldn’t help but think, “I know it’s kinda far north here, but this is bullshit.”

Those are almost exactly my thoughts from last week, word for word. Two weeks until we’re supposed to be frost-free and able to start gardening - what the hell?

I swear I will develop telekinetic powers and Force-choke the first jackass that makes a “hurr where’s our global warming herf durf amirite” joke.

Ottawa, huh?

You deserve it, then. :stuck_out_tongue:

I blame Harper.

No, this isn’t a political rant.

It’s just that when he prorogued Parliament, he removed the constant source of hot air that normally ameliorates Ottawa’s climate. This is the result.

Ah but Parliament has been in session for weeks now, and there’s been two snowfalls in as many weeks… who can say.

We had hail in Portland about a week ago. A regular downpour of it. Then a few nights ago, there was a frost warning two nights in a row. Coldest spring in 50 years, according to some.

I was going to but I didn’t want to come off looking like a dick.

NO, NO, NO!!! Snow is GOOD!!! Snow is NICE!!! Snow lets us do things like ski, and sled, and ride our kayaks down hills that otherwise are too flippin’ frictioney to let them slide.

Besides - it’s the last snowfall of the year winter, likely. It’s lost. It was looking for someplace with polar bears and penguins and such. Be kind to it, brush it gently out of your way, and point it towards the nearest polar region.

After all - you’re going to see it again in about 6 months. Why send it off hurt and angry and looking for revenge? It just may come back pissed off and looking to really stick it to you at a time when you’re still thinking that hot-n-sticky is normal, and you’ll find your car is out there under one of those big white lumps on the street - somewhere…

No, it didn’t snow here, dammit. I woulda liked that, too.

All the way down here in Virginia I just gave up and turned the heat back on. If it was just me I wouldn’t, but the high today is 55F and the low tonight will be 34. Cripes! You can’t fit enough layers on a three-year old and still let them move. . .

I can remember once ages ago (30-odd years ago) it snowed on April 30th here.

Snow is fine…except in May! We had a bit of a flurry a few days ago, but haven’t seen any more since, aside from up way higher on the mountains. (I’m in the mountains, in Idaho.)

A low above freezing? Wow. I’d be able to turn my heat off completely! As it is, I’m still having to turn it on at least for awhile in the mornings. If the weather people are right, that will start happening this weekend. We’ll see.

My sympathies. It’s cold in Toronto today, but only have the usual flakes around.

Most years the furnace doesn’t even run at all in the month of May. Right now I have the wood stove going in the basement AND the furnace has been running. Expected flurries again today with a low of -2 overnight.

You folks had a strange January as I recall–little snow on the ground, and rain.

We had snow last week, and the week before. I’m tired of it.

I’ve been alternating between prepping the garden and yard and trying to keep warm.

You can keep the snow :stuck_out_tongue: though we did see a few flames yesterday afternoon. It couldn’t decide whether to be warm or cold.

It’s snowing again! I know people complain that the NHL season should be over by the time the snow is gone, but I don’t think that this is what they had in mind.

I thought you were in Toronto? The Weather Network says it’s a balmy 10 there.
