I Do Not Like Turkey

Uummm, I’m from the south. I like turnip greens and collard greens, and black-eye peas (with ham hock)so I guess I’d better count my blessings that turkey is one of few foods I don’t like.

I finally got away without eating turkey this year.
Each year I argue with my sister, I want ham and she wants turkey, and it’s 4-1 turkey.

This year I just didn’t eat it. Filled up on potatoes, bread and corn on the cob.

She didn’t notice, only Dad did, and asked “Didn’t you want turkey?”, but didn’t follow up when I said no. (I had been prepared to become the topic of conversation, as every other year, when I take a small slice and just don’t eat it. And everyone fusses.)

So, I was disappointed that she hadn’t noticed.

But then at the end she said “Oh, certainly Squeezly will take the massive leftover turkey…” And I got my chance to say “Why would I. You know I hate it, and didn’t have any at the meal. Why would I want it the second time?”

She had no answer to that.

I know there is a fight coming at Christmas, but this time it will be a lot easier.

:o My apologies! Please don’t think I don’t love the South, because I do. I will have to leave the greens & black-eyed peas for you, though. Please pass the barbecue & banana pudding!

Fine! More cheesecake for ME!

I like sliced smoked turkey for sandwiches, but am not a big fan of whole turkeys which have been sawn into pieces. We had brisket this year. I worship brisket. “Let’s eat an animal that’s good for the holiday.” A novel idea.

Turkey is so good we should have followed Ben Franklin’s advice and made it the symbol of the nation instead of some rare eagle.
