I don't care about my ipod, but you stole my glucometer and diabetes log...

I’m gagging at the thought that God has a reason for this stupid and pointless theft. The reasoning here is simple. There was a thief. He was an asshole and stole the bookbag. God didn’t steal the bookbag. A thief did. All by his own assholish self. For no divinely-inspired reason; just greed and selfishness. This is not complicated.

newcrasher, you have my sympathy; the violation of being robbed of something valuable (and that you have put a lot of work into!) is infuriating. I hope you’re able to find it, and if not, at least you can start another log and in seven weeks have returned to the state you were currently at, regarding that at least.

Newscrasher, sorry for the bad luck, but as the father of an 11 year old type 1 I can tell you that your Diabetes Educator can perhaps give you another meter. When my son changes meters because of insurance requirements or wear and tear, his educator will give him new ones that the meter companys give them. Sort of like free samples because they know you will have to purchase the test strips anyway. As far as the log goes, we’ve been dealing with his for 8 years, they have been lost, colored on, eaten by the dog, forgotten on Dr. visit days, and about anything else you can imagine. It’s not the end of the world, even a few days of tests can show trends that the Dr. can use .

As an aside, God had nothing to do with a silly asshole stealing your stuff. That was a silly asshole doing what silly assholes do.

So, as a worshipper of your deity, will you praise him for doing a miracle if your diabetes stuff is recovered?

This is all pretty incredible!

I work at a bank. We opened a new branch yesterday. You know, fancy occassion, lots of visitors and folks dropping in. I know a lot of local police because they come through the bank often for security and they have a rotation wherer they park their car in our parking lot when they are off cuty to deter robbers.

So one of the officers and I are standing in the lobby and I am bitching about my lost bag. He asks me what it looks like. I mention the diabetes stuff and his eyes go wide.

He gets on the radio and then on his cell phone. A bag has been turned in to the police from the office manager of the apartments next to the place where it was stolen.

The officer at the apartments is on his way to my bank and offered to bring it to me.

EVERYTHING was recovered! Even my ipod. The ipod was in a special hidden compartment, but should have been easy to find. My guess is a kid took it and his mom found it and turned it in to the office but I will never know.

WOW!

As to the religious questions, I feel some have been asked disingenuously. Whether I will praise God or not is really a personal issue. If you are seriously interested in a respectful discussion or even a debate, start a thread and link it.

Rand Rover, even though your question was snarky, it was a good one. Was it all part of God’s plan for my life? I don’t know, but as a Christian I have to consider why these things happen.

In my experience, people hurt other people out of poverty. Real hunger will make the sweetest old woman a thief. But not just a poverty of money. If this bag was really stolen by a kid, it reflects a poverty of maturity, or a poverty of proper parenting.

I am thinking about what kind of poverty makes someone snark someone who has lost something important because he mentions Jesus. friedo, you too. From what poverty do you need to insult my God and by association me?

Is it a poverty of love in your life? Is it a poverty of maturity? Is it a poverty of compassion or understanding? Is it a povery of tolerance?

As a follower of Jesus, I am committed to resiting and fighting poverty in all of its forms. I believe poverty is the enemy of peace.

Rand Rover, friedo, **what can I do to help you?

But you may have to yell! I am listening to Judas Priest on my new-found ipod!!

Peace!

That’s wonderful news!

I’m an atheist, but this strikes even me as harsh.

You Sir, are a cunt!

It’s hard to guess at how God works, how the outcome will be. I don’t fault Land Rover for a guess.

A lot of times it will be a connection, one person talking to another. Perhaps God wanted the OP poster to talk to the cop, perhaps He wanted to start this thread, perhaps He was teaching the poster to place his trust in Him.

As a fan of cunts, I must protest.

A poverty of tolerance for hypocricy. Christians often want others to treat their beliefs with reverence and not challenge them, so I find it distasteful when a Christian doesn’t live up to their own beliefs themselves.

Maybe you can use this whole episode as a learning experience. You apparently did not really believe that everything happens for a reason and is part of god’s plan because if you did you wouldn’t have gotten upset about the bag getting stolen. So maybe you should examine other aspects of your beliefs to see if they really do ring true to you or if you are just fooling yourself (like you were with your belief that everything is part of god’s plan).

It is time for you to reexamine your life. It is OK to not be a christian. There are lots of books that can help guide you in a journey of questioning your beliefs.

While I understand the sentiment here, I need to remind you that:

Believers are human, they have normal responses such as getting upset. The difference is we realize that God is above it all and it will work out for the good - this takes some longer then others and is normal and natural. Saying that the poster should not have reacted that way is saying he is inhuman. It is also a attempt to use his normal reaction to discredit and question his belief.

What you stated is very cruel, and not just from the pit of the SD but from the pit of hell itself, in the name of Jesus I rebuke your post.

To the OP, may I suggest the books of Ephesians, 2 Timothy, Jude to start.

Mind if I use this as a sig?

I advise a little sympathy for the thief. Those little diabetes things are just irresistible. Have you seen the commercials? They come in three crowd-pleasing colors! You can get one to match your shorts! You can get one to go with your poodle!* Hell, I don’t have diabetes, and *I *want one! Is there a way to induce diabetes?

*A euphemism if ever I heard one.

I think a accurate chart showing the location of the pancreas and a long needle might be a good place to start, Sigmagirl.

I’m glad you got all your stuff back newcrasher. I think the announcement was well timed as it came right after Dripping’s post. Gave me a good laugh.

Yup, a good laugh at the expense of bitter people is a precious commodity, and that’s true regardless of God’s actual role in the incident.

I’m glad you got your stuff back newcrasher.

I’m glad that you got everything back. And the lesson in this is that if you think you should lock your car, then yes, you’re right, you SHOULD lock that car! And hide the bag, too, so no one breaks a window to steal it.

If you’ve got the money to burn on the strips and a yearning for lancet-induced finger calluses, buy a meter anyway.

Telperien, who is grouchy because her metformin scrip has just been increased for no apparent reason
