I don't care if the critics hated it and/or it didn't win any awards....

I see no one has brought up some of my favorite movies (listed in the order they were made):

Mommie Dearest (a touching tale of adoption and wire hangers)
Drop Dead Fred (because who doesn’t need an imaginary friend?)
White Chicks (even I can’t explain why I like this one)
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (no! I’m not too old to love this one!)

Of those, Sisterhood is the only one that gets a good rating out of Rotten Tomatoes (79%).

Gotta agree. This is a cult classic. Bad acting, bad plot, but lot’s of FUN!
The’re so many bad movies on the Sci-Fi channel these days… But I still watch 'em!

  • Independence Day Awful
  • The Fifth Element Fun
  • Local Hero Great film
  • Titanic Blecch
  • Toy Story Not bad
  • Men In Black Loved it
  • Bambi Barely remember it
  • Rio Bravo Never seen it
  • Hudson Hawk Shite
  • McClintock Never seen it
  • White Christmas Ditto

I think The Hulk is the second-best movie (after X2) to come out of the recent Marvel resurgence. Yeah, better than both Spider-man flicks. Beat that.

Completely agree. I thought that Hulk was great.

I heard his latest movie was really funny and that it’s his best yet. I don’t see how he can top Pet Detective.

I enjoyed Swordfish (26% RT) and Resident Evil (35%).

I,too, enjoyed Swordfish .

Other favorite Travolta schlockfests:

Urban Cowboy

Face Off

Staying Alive , the almost-universally panned sequel to Saturday Night Fever , another favorite Travolta schlockfest.

I was disappointed with Battlefield Earth ,though. Not sclhocky, just bad.

I also kinda liked Death to Smoochy .

Hudson Hawk and The Fifth Element are a couple of my favorites. Sometimes I think I might have a little bit of a man crush on Bruce Willis.

I came in to say Donnie Darko, but Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 79%. I had no idea other people watched it, nevermind enjoyed it.

Upon further reflection, Memento and 12 Monkeys came to mind, but they also are apparently critically acclaimed. Who knew?

So, ultimately, I’ve added nothing to this thread. Thank you. Goodnight.

I enjoyed Batman and Robin. The acting is generally pretty bad I think it’s a fun movie if you don’t take it all that seriously.

I think Bring it On is a work of genius. It (unlike the sequels, directed by a different person) isn’t meant to be taken seriously. Hillarious movie.

The films of John Boorman–even *Zardoz * and Exorcist II: The Heretic.

Damn thing got 65% on Rottentomatoes. I didn’t realise that. I guess that kills that suggestion.

I realize I said I liked DareDevil better than both Spidey flicks so I shouldn’t be casting stones here but ¿¡qué fuck!? The only (recent) Marvel movie worse than Hulk is the aforementioned Elektra. Even Fantastic Four was better.

This is a whoosh, right?

Boy. And here I was feeling wierd about liking Adam Sandler movies.
The weasel?

I liked Daredevil and Fantastic Four.

And I thought Hulk had it’s moments—not a lot of 'em, and they weren’t that terrific, true…

But here’s my big heretic moment: I liked Planet of the Apes.

Burton’s version.

Better than the original, actually.

there’s a difference between a good movie and one you like to watch.
12 Angry Men is at least 10x better than Harold & Kumar, but I watch it 10x less.

Re: Marvel movies, Captain America ('90s version) makes Hulk look like Casablanca.

Mars Attacks! rocks (and it got me an A in sci-fi cinema class in college)

Oh, my heretical movie is Paycheck.

Best movie ever. I can’t believe it got such a horrible rating. I thought it was hilarious.

Night at the Roxbury. I saw it at the old 2$ theatre on St-Catherine’s when I was in undergrad in Montreal and the whole audience was laughing, not just yours truly.

It seems even funnier to me now that I live in L.A. and actually see these types of people at the gym.

Rather than bringing out all our doog movies, but for instance what I would consider a movie a lot better than most of those released the same year, but largely passing under the radar of critics and the populace at large would be My Life Without Me. Great quiet film. Me and my dad saw it at the Seattle Foreign Film Festival and expected it would go on to be the new Bambi, but nada.
