I Don't Get Spam

Well, I understand spam, but I just don’t recieve any. I even took the precaution of setting up a seperate email account for any service that requires a valid e-mail address to take advantage of (this board included). But none of my email addresses pick up any spam. In fact, I’ve rarely if ever gotten any spam, bar my first email account. It was on Hotmail, and I don’t think there’s getting around spam on that particular service.

Explanations anyone?

You’re a lucky bastard?

If your penis needs enlarging, let me know. I have about an Encyclopaedia Brittanica’s worth of info to pass along.

Are you just trying to piss everyone off? This is something you should have kept to yourself.I’m going to organize a spammers union to take care of you. Wait til you receive the massive backlog that’s due you! You’re going to be very sorry you cackled about this, you, you…HORRID BEAST!

Teach me everything!

How long have you been on the Internet, Tentacle Monster? Got to admit, my own spam load is extremely light. Then again, I don’t go to porn sites, or sign up for every doo-dad going with pretty lights and loud beeps, either.

I recently changed my email address to help reduce my spam intake. It wored! i get about 0.05% the amount of spam that I used to!

Yay! Long may it continue.

I’ve had my current service for about a month now. However, prior to that, I had a long stretch between my old computer breaking, not being able to afford a new one, and then basic training and tech school. That stretch was about 2 years long, all told. But before that, I’ve had 'net service since I was in Junior High. And once I moved from the hotmail account, I’ve never had spam since.

I do take the precaution of obfuscating my “real” e-mail address every time I post it somewhere (this message board included), in case there are 'bots going around collecting addresses to spam.

I can see it now:

I AM THE SPAMMER ROBOT
I COLLECT THE EMAIL ADDRESSES
WE ARE HERE TO PROTECT YOU
WE ARE HERE TO PROTECT YOU FROM HAVING A TINY PENIS

PAK CHOOIE UNF

Insert obligatory Monty Python reference here

Heh. If I insert anything, I’ll just get more spam.

I hope you haven’t obfuscated your email address used for contacts from this board, Tentacle Monster. Much as that may save you from the ravages of the bots and their spam masters, the Admins here don’t take kindly to false email addresses being used in the user profiles.

I have two email addresses.
One of them has been in use since 1996, and is used for personal correspondence, shopping, board registrations, etc. My ISP offers a pretty powerful spam filtering option, and I find 150-200 spam messages a day caught in the filter, and maybe one or two spam messages that got past the filter.
The other one has been in place for just over a month, and is used exclusively for business correspondence. I haven’t turned on the spam filter yet, and have not gotten a single spam to this account.

Theres obfuscating going on and nobody told me?

Tentacle Monster: I’d hate for you to feel left out - drop me a line with your email address and I’ll see what I can arrange…

Nih!

Ice Wolf: I used a legitimate e-mail address to sign up to the SDMB. It’s rarely checked, however. What I meant by obfuscating is that I won’t use @ or . if I post my main address to a thread. Dopers can figure it out easily, spambots just roll on by.

Some of us are just lucky, Tentacle Monster.

I don’t get any spam to speak of, either. Just recently I started getting spam messages addressed to a whole range of words, but only about three a week.

I don’t do anything to avoid spam except not replying to spam or clicking to opt out. And I don’t use hotmail.

I’m not complaining. I like being one of the lucky few.

Congratulations.

I don’t get any spam, either. I use Yahoo! and download it to Outlook 2000.

Ah, cool. Thanks for clarifying, Tentacle Monster.

I don’t get spam at work. A lot of my coworkers do, but then, they use their work email addresses for all kinds of stupid stuff. I use my personal email for anything that might generate spam.
