I don't get the "hate" for Canada

Ha! That’s great

I don’t know why I’m still astounded by how gullible and easily led people can be - - I’ve lived in the South for a long time now. My town is pretty purple, a lot of transplants ‘from away’ which keeps it bearable, but things like the Canada snark and that the current war was Biden’s fault (heard that too the other day) just boggles me.

I swear I wish I could be a hermit and just enjoy my cats, tea, friends, and wine in peace. It’s disheartening to realize how willfully stupid people can be.

What surprises me is that anyone, anywhere would give credence to anything posted on Facebook.

You need a very strong sense of skepticism, true, but as much as I detest Meta and Zuckerberg I find FB pretty useful for keeping tabs on local stuff and faraway friends.

For myself I’ve morphed the saying “trust but verify” into “mistrust AND verify”. Works for me >shrug<

My favorite sitcom is Corner Gas, which is Canadian.

Maybe they are still embarrassed by the whole Fort Blunder thing

I was gonna say, for the non-singing side there are an awful lot of Canadian actors, including

  • Ryan Reynolds
  • Rachael McAdams
  • Jim Carrey
  • Michael J Adams
  • Sandra Oh
  • Catherine O’Hara
  • The Sutherlands, Donald and Kiefer
  • Dan Akroid
  • Anna Paquin
  • Carrie-Ann Moss
  • Raymond Burr
  • Margot Kidder

I prefer Letterkenny. But that’s mostly because of Michelle Mylett.

In the southeast US, what I’ve noticed that it’s all MAGA/team based. Of the actual people who’ve I’ve overheard/observed Canada/Trudeau/Carny bashing, that they’ve never followed any issues before, before them being spoon fed to them on RW media on that specific day, and so they’re basically parroters, who, not so much “hate” Canada as such, as much as they love hating Canada, in being part of some tag-teaming troll brigade of sorts. Just as they don’t so much love Trump as much as they love being Trump fans.

I have three “Halloween” movies. Two of them have Rick Moranis. They are Ghostbusters and Little Shop of Horrors (doesn’t having Horrors in the title make it a Halloween movie?).

And here I always thought that he’d issue a tariff and wait to see if anyone would turn over a big enough bribe to kill it.

I loved him in Back to the Adams.

I thought he was in Hazmat Suits.

Second City started in Canada too, didn’t it?

The improv show started in Chicago and then expanded to Toronto which begat SCTV

Which is why the groups were called “Second City,” as that’s a nickname for Chicago (though it’s rarely used these days); the nickname refers to Chicago being often seen as second-best, behind New York City.

There’s a new SCTV documentary on Netflix. Joe Flaherty was the advance guy for Second City that was sent up here to scope Toronto out as a possible location.

NO! Being set during Halloween season (particularly at the climax) makes a movie a Halloween movie.
