nope, but I laughed anyway.
My Chinese is a but rusty, but I believe it’s a clever commentary on the plight of third-world subsistence farmers.
It says:
我们在哪里是什么期
我们应该禽开这里
我同意
你这是干什么
遗憾
我不知道中文
Which translates to…
dang, too slow
As far as I can tell, it means:
Where are we and what period is this?
We should get out of here.
I agree.
What are you doing?
Sorry, I don’t understand Chinese.
Note I got one character wrong at 2. It should be: 我们应该离开这里
Google Translate does then come up with “We should get out of here” instead of “We should open this bird.”
Yeah I should have written 离 not 禽.
Easy mistake to make.
I wanna see a strip with the line “we should open this bird.”
Today is Chinese New Year, IIRC. C&H has a long-standing tradition of having a “two guys step out of a time machine” joke every New Years’ Day. Looks like today they decided to honor the Chinese New Year, because that’s the time machine in the background. The gag about taking his shirt off just seems to be there so that there’s some sort of actual humor involved. I suspect the text isn’t supposed to be meaningful beyond sparking the “Chinese” idea in our heads.
