He’s not dead. He’s resting.
I saw on the news that 20 % in a poll don’t support Hillary or Trump . I can’t recall which news I saw it on. I bet the number could be higher b/c not everyone took the poll , I didn’t .
Can’t be elected more than twice (22nd Amendment).
(also, dead)
Clinton or Trump may not excite
But here’s a truth you may not like
One will be the president
No matter how you may lament
So cast that vote or you’ll regret
The one you liked least was better yet
But Lincoln was president before the 22nd Amendment. Wouldn’t that give him an out? They were going to let Truman run again if he’d chosen to.
The exception applied only to the incumbent at the time of passage. Truman could have run again, but Zombie Lincoln could not.
And he didn’t finish his second term.
And indeed, he had barely started his second term. Surely he’s owed a do-over?
He’s not resting, he’s passed on. He’s a stiff – bereft of life, he rests in peace! If you hadn’t nailed him into the chair next to Clint Eastwood, he would be pushing up daisies! He is an EX-President!
Did no one remember someone named Lincoln did run for president this cycle?
Something about him rubbed me the wrong way. He was kinda irritating.
Boys, you’re gonna drive me to drinkin’ if you don’t stop enticing that Cape Cod Lincoln…
The wording of the amendment just says you can’t be elected more than twice. So it doesn’t matter that he didn’t get much of his second term. And as Siam Sam said, the Amendment applies to elections prior to its passage, with the exception of the President when its actually passed (i.e. Truman).
“not everyone took the poll” is sorta a basic tenet in polling, right?
And some would say he’s a little moldy himself.
You don’t understand how a poll works. Just because you weren’t asked would have made no difference.
I hear a lot of comments like this, and my reaction boils down to this:
Tough shit. I’m not thrilled with either one, but those are our choices. Pick one, vote for a minor party candidate, or sit out the election.
Part of the price of being a grownup is having to choose between two things we don’t like.
I still say we should ram a Constitutional Amendment through the state legislatures and draft Arnold Schwarzenegger to run as an independent/unity candidate. People think I’m making a weird joke, but I think it’s theoretically workable. Schwarzenegger may be a goon, but he’s not malicious, which is more than I can say for Trump. And in a race between two notorious unlikable weirdos running on their notoriety, a Hollywood superstar is a, well, higher ranking card.
I guess I’m voting for Jill Stein as things stand now, and I can tell you I’m just thrilled about it. :dubious: I watched a Green party presidential candidate debate on…RT? I think it was RT. Wow, looks like Dr. Stein really is the best speaker they have.
[sarcasm] Clearly a party ready for massive executive responsibility. [/sarcasm]
Still, not blatantly giving America a Bronx cheer from the pocket of Lloyd Blankfein, which is more than I can say for either Clinton or Trump. And maybe giving power to a bunch of idealistic pacifist locavores could accomplish…something?
Hillary Clinton blatantly changes her opinions based on what makes her family more money. If you are willing to pay her more money than Goldman Sachs has (this means you have to give her a cool million), or you coincidentally have the same opinions and interests as Lloyd Blankfein and/or Jamie Dimon, then yes, she’s your girl. Otherwise, eh, not so much.
Vote for her if you want, but keep your head down and hope no billionaires want to steal (or poison) your water supply or your neighborhood badly enough to buy her off.
Note that Trump is, most likely, no better, and in some ways much worse.
Don’t worry, you’ll get over the Bernie separation loss eventually…
