I don't like Megabloks

Different people gave my daughter two of the big bags of Megabloks for Christmas. I don’t like them. They’re bulky and they don’t stick together well, so it’s hard to play with the things we build with them because the damn things fall apart as soon as she touches them.

She has a nice set of Melissa & Doug wooden blocks and she’s getting more for her second birthday in a month. She’s also getting a bucket of Duplo blocks. I feel that at that point I could donate the Megabloks to somebody who’d appreciate them, and we’d have more fun with the other toys.

HOWEVER, given that they’re so incredibly popular, before I do–is there some redeeming quality I’m missing? I see that it’s fun to build furniture and cars that are big enough for her dollies and teddies to use, but also like I said, everything falls apart too easily so a lot of the fun value is lost.

The redeeming quality is that they’re cheaper than Lego.

I had a bucket of Mega Bloks that seemed to stick together okay. I think they were only 4x2 and 2x2 blocks, though; maybe different sizes have a worse fit.

Megabloks is cheaper because of its lower production and design standards.

And for a two-year-old, I think you’re better off sticking with duplo for now.
