Do not forget that Marx’s observation that “religion is the opiate of the masses” predated televised sport.
That’s my experience as well. Also you have some guys who like a different sport than sports maybe the rest of group does (down South some folks just like NASCAR, so they can’t really engage in a discussion about baseball, for instance). No one gets put down for not following anything in particular.
Yes, but Karl Marx played left back for Charlton Athletic while he was in London writing the Communist Manifesto, so I don’t think he would have levelled the same accusation against televised sport.
Watching sports is one of the most boring things to do IMO. I would much rather be out doing something or watching something I do find entertaining.
My brother gives me a hard time for not liking sports, but I give it back to him about his dislike of beer, so I guess we’re even.
Wow, aren’t you special? I never do things I find entertaining.
But do you like beer? How about your brother?
Geez, lighten up.
OP never came back. Perhaps he’s taken up a sport. Maybe ultra-marathoning or climbing K2.
Chess boxing?
Extreme disco pogs
It doesn’t seem like he ever does. He just asks a question and then abandons the thread.
Funny thing is, I have Facebook friends commenting on sports stuff, people who I never thought, in a million years, would take a liking to them. The most non-sports minded person I ever knew just posted that he got ramped up during the Mexico-Brazil soccer match yesterday. We change. It happens.
I, on the other hand, am slowly losing my interest in them. Been there, done that.
